I gravitate to my jazz because it is the one that draws me to practice. If I am exercising to strengthen my hand and build chops, I go to the P bass. Then the jazz is easy.

I have the same bass. No need for hum cancelling on mine. I think the OEM pickups were proprietary. Search for the Ibanez forum, there was info on the bass last time I looked.

Through seems to give more body vibrations, which I like. Even playing acoustically, using a solid body, you can feel the vibration. The only other way to get the body to vibrate this much is to use high volume or feedback.

Alder is my favorite. I like to see the wood, many transparent finishes choose Ash, my second choice.
