    Pretty much any decent one that works for XP will also work for Vista. I have FlexiMusic Audio Editor, which is very friendly in editing and recording that i used for a long time.

    Be sure that you have click the recording option to start it. Choose the microphone as a recording source and increase the volume of it , then try it.
