    Boss GT 1000Core

I'd guess all the filters are 12dB/Oct unless otherwise specified. I have to set mine pretty high (80Hz), so I'm assuming that is the case.

    Cab sim... or not?

Bass cabs are WAY more colored than PA speakers, which should be considered to be fairly neutral, HARD disagree with anyone suggesting overlap there. Don't need one with a SansAmp, but a cab sim generally makes dirt sound better. Not really necessary with a clean tone IME.

    Fog/Moisture at Big Shows

Yup, these are broad categories, but water/sugar* based haze generally causes less irritation and is less likely to leave a sticky film/residue than oil-based products. IMO water-based haze is the way to go for live performance (unless dramatic, low-flying fog is required) - safer for the...

    IEM headphone amp recommendation needed

Yep, the major differences are that FA uses spring steel instead of sheet metal for the inner frame/belt clip, and the batteries don't get knocked out when dropped/bumped into something. Buy once, cry once.

    IEM headphone amp recommendation needed

https://www.fischer-amps.de/in-ear-monitoring-headphone-amplifiers-periphery.html Fischer Amps In-Ear Stick. High quality, has a limiter.

    Does anyone else tune their basses down a 4th? (Five string with E A D G C strings but tuned down to B E A D G)

Yes, I specified my custom to be set up that way (35-105) due to hand issues (which have since been resolved), but the 34-37" scale compensates for the light gauge. I did try a .105 B string on a 35" before, and that was too floppy for my tastes, but a 37" scale does the trick.

    Ibanez Insiders... Future BTB plans?

It's silly, but this is the sole reason I haven't pulled the trigger on a 605MS. I'll replace my gigging axes with a pair of these if they ever release a model with a redesigned headstock.

    Steve Grossberg (aka Killing Floor)

I'm sorry to hear he is gone. I thought he was a wonderful human being: Deeply curious and knowledgeable about things old and new. He wasn't afraid of swimming against the current, but was always respectful, and his insights were often accompanied by humor. When everybody was lamenting the death...

How do you usually set attack and release times on your compressor when manual controls are available?

This is going off topic, but from the point of view of a former FoH person - it's good if it sounds good. Every engineer I know prefers a mix-ready tone from the bass player's board when given a choice, with emphasis on mix-ready. Nothing wrong with the tool itself if you use it sensibly for...

How do you usually set attack and release times on your compressor when manual controls are available?

For live use, compressing a full-range signal, mostly rock/metal/similar genres: Usually start with the attack at 40ms, as it fully lets through the first cycle of the waveform, then work down from there to get the right amount of grab. I'd personally consider below ~15ms fast for bass guitar...

Used Warwick Bass, yea or nae ?

Wouldn't risk ordering an expensive pre-owned instrument overseas (unless there was a really explicit guarantee), Warwicks are not THAT rare and "couple grand" doesn't sound like a steal.

    Do you really need luminlay?

You don't NEED them, but they help a lot on dark stages. The previous statement only pertains to real Luminlay dots. I have some instruments with generic fluorescent side markers, and they don't last half as long as Luminlay. You get best results when charging them with a UV flashlight right...

    Q: Sound System HPF

Yeah, as mentioned above, a steep 30Hz filter might be appropriate to protect subs, but not clean up bass low end. Something like ~60-70Hz would be more appropriate for a 5-string.

    Complex signal chain? [discussion]

This has been an issue with pretty much every digital MFX I've used. I find most real amps/cabs these devices try to model are colored in ways that are detrimental to dialing in an ideal PA live tone. The "Natural" amp/cab sims in Boss GT/GX devices, and more idealized sims in general, work the...

Do I need a backup for a HX Stomp?

No, these devices are solid, but I'd consider a backup for the POS power brick they ship the pedal with. Photos pulled from internet, but you get the idea what is wrong with these from a durability point of view. Also can't use a standard Boss-type supply without an adapter cable because Line6...
