$2100 CAD... It should be easy enough to follow the woodgrain around the outer edges to make sure it's not ply. The sides would be trickier. I suppose shining a light in to make sure the grain matches the outside would be the way? I was able to find an old classifieds post with the same label...

Just going to look at a supposedly fully carved bass tomorrow.. It's proven to be pretty ungoogleable, however. Getting lots of hits about a Shen model by the same name, but that one seems to be plywood. Here are some photos:

Oh cool, I see the KickAss "Mount Pattern 2 (Squier)" is 0.706", or 17.93mm, which should be close enough. 17mm is as tight as the string spacing will go, but that's closer to the mark anyway. Thanks for the intel!

So it seems to be the case, after looking at diagrams from various manufacturers, that hole spacing usually follows string spacing. Each of the 7 options for Hipshot A, for example, have holes that correspond to each model's spacing. Looks like I'm not going to be able to avoid drilling...

Warwicks from '09 on have necks that are 20mm and 24mm at the 1st and 12th frets, respectively (according to posts here and here).

I suppose the question is whether any bridges have either 5 mounting holes spaced at 18mm, or 3 spaced at 36mm

The Talman 5 strings all have the 18mm spaced B15W bridge, but I'd prefer something closer to the 16.5mm spacing of the SR series. What are some options that won't require drilling new holes?

You could get a bridge with adjustable saddle spacing, install it on whatever bass you like. Something like this: schaller.info/en/bridges/337/3d-4 Or go for a Warwick. Their saddles are similarly adjustable.

I bought these D'Addario Preludes off eBay, and they've arrived in a plastic bag instead of proper packaging. Is anyone familiar with this seller, or with the strings themselves well enough to identify whether they're legit or counterfeit? Here are some photos:

Are 1/4 strings lower gauge than 3/4 strings? I just bought used Engelhardt M3 (my first upright!), and I think it has 3/4 strings, as they're cut off at the tuning pegs, with no wrap at the ends. It also has very high action. So if 1/4 strings are lower gauge, would that mean lower tension...
