Good point. MarkBass actually has a very broad range of products, and some of them really do get into "old school" territory. And used heads are out there, often for half what they cost new.

Oh, and ditto for the Quilter Bass Block heads. Utterly FRFS hi-fi. Love 'em, but there is nothing "old-school" about the sound.

I can relate to that. Then, to be honest, MarkBass might not be your first choice. Me, I like a powerful hi-fi amp head that does not color my sound unless I need it to. For everything else, I use pedals. For grit and warmth, specifically, I use an EBS Billy Sheehan Signature Drive Deluxe...
