I think that if a bassist can own 20 basses, and knows the insides, outsides, sweetspots, tone settings and string setup for each, and can show each one a good bit of loving, then why the heck not. I do personally know some "Gearwhores" who literally buy gear, and talk a big game, and cant play...

Ibanez's are notorious workhorses i find, and a new SR35 fretless runs arund $400 new, and an Ibanez GWB (Gary Willis Bass) will be around $475 used, and is definitely worth that money. Other than that theres Wishbass if youre up for the modding, or Brice...but idk much about brice...Id go...

I think bass should definitely have a nice low end to give the live sound some actual body, but should still be crisp enough that, when it peeks through the guitar at certain key moments, its still definable and has a nice mid-treble tone. The key points could be Les Claypools famous sort of...
