I was thinking about putting a Nordstrand pu on my SRX. But the pu shapes are different which would require a pickguard to cover the holes. And then if you're going that far you might as well paint for a more interesting color.
So I tried it in Photoshop and wound up with this Ibbycaster.

And I still love mine.
It took me a bit to figure out the electronics, though. The pickups are "passive," but the bass does have an active EQ, so technically it's "active" but has a pretty low gain on it so I use the passive input on my amp.
I might not do that if I was boosting the treb or bass, though. Those nested knobs boost and cut, not just cut. So "flat" is running them in the middle where you feel the notch.
Also, the mid-sweeper is pretty cool, but I had to learn where the flattest part of that sweep is so I could set the knob there when I want the EQ flat--which is most of the time. I guess it's about halfway through the twist. There's no notch to feel for, so you have to just estimate.
Twisting that sucker all the way up is a really scooped sound, suitable for slapping. Twisting it back gives you a middy sound for Jaco-style finger work.

I played one of those Icemans the other day, and loved the slim and sleek body- but the neck felt thick and awkward. Kept thinking an SR neck would be soo much better, and give the bass a more "Thunderbird" feel with the thin neck.

I should probably belong to this club since Ibanez has been the main player for me more often than not.
I've added a couple ATK's to the arsenal...but the 700 may probably go on the block. They've impressed me, but y'all know how it is......so many basses to own - so little time
I'm not familiar with the ATK line (huge SR fan) but those make me want to know more. I'll have to look them up.
ATKs are the antithesis of the SR series; wide bodies with huge tone and a tree trunk for a neck; very wide and flat. They're built more for punch than voice.

^are you talking about flat on the front? because I really like the profile on my ATK it is very comfortable for something thicker(that's what she said?)
It has a flatter radius than say, a P-Bass. The relative flatness is what makes it comfortable to play in spite of having such a wide neck.
Click on the Go Advanced button. Use the paperclip to attach your picture. It will appear as a thumbnail size in the post but then will enlarge to full size when anyone clicks on it. If you want to see it full sized in your post then put the image online somewhere (a picture host like Picasso or your web site if you have one) and use the Mountain icon to point to where it is posted.
