    Learning lots of songs fast

But don't stay up too late every night obsessing about it. When you are overtired the gains you made the night before may be lost to you the next day!

    Learning lots of songs fast

Another benefit of repeat listenings and as was said earlier "drilling the songs into your brain" is that you will also learn much about how the other instruments contribute to the song structure. I discovered the "subtle nuances" present in many of the songs I was learning. Especially in tunes...

I REALLY want to change my fretboard.

Just curious, what did you do to get the blue tone on your knobs? Were they purchased that way? Being an autopainter I applied color to the inside of my clear plastic bathtub hot and cold knobs to give them a cool blue transluscent look. Can't tell from your photo what exactly you have though.

    Learning lots of songs fast

One thing that I discovered a long time ago is to try not to hear the basslines you are studying on a high end home stereo. Especially in a room with lots of cushy furnishings, plush carpet etc. I've always felt that I could hear more definition in a bassline in my bone stock car stereo or even...

I REALLY want to change my fretboard.

What I did may not be right for you or anybody else. I modded a cheap entry level Squire Affinity P/J bass. Part of doing that included a Seymour Duncan jazz bridge pickup, an inexpensive no-name higher mass bridge, pickguard, the retro chrome covers that few players love and a complete burial...

Bass inspired name for a dog.

I just picked up a new guinea piggy last week. Also a rescue animal! She already had a name and she will retain it. But after reading all of these bass related doggy names I might have named her "Ampster!" I crack myself up.

Bass inspired name for a dog.

About five years ago I was attempting to find a suitable cocker spaniel through the Rocky Mountain Cocker Spaniel Rescue in Denver. They notified me of a male that was being surrendered to them by a family who had found him on their front porch. He had apparently been running around Denver loose...

    NBD Rickenbacker 4003 Satin Autumnglo

And on your way home you were already slightly upset with yourself. You most likely thought "now why did I just go and do that?" I've done that ! A lot of us have done that. More than once. We won't learn from it though. We'll do it again! But really there should be no regret. You have...

    Bill Rieflin: RIP

Yes, this sadly sucks. The earth is a sadder place when a great musician leaves it. King Crimson has recently been suggested as the best touring band in the world during the last few years. Bill was a major force in their current incarnation. He also contributed great melotron as well without...

    NBD '63 Gibson EB0!

Though I already posted a comment on this thread last week or so I thought that I should share a couple of EB-3, Dennis Dunaway and Jim Lea stories. The Alice Cooper band and Slade had more of an influence on my life than almost anything else that I can think of! I saw Alice Cooper at the...

    NBD '63 Gibson EB0!

Nice buy! Enjoy it! Also, thank you for mentioning both Jim Lea and Dennis Dunaway! They were and still are TWO AMAZING BASSISTS whose names are seldom included in conversations regarding the most influential players! Sadly, too frequently overlooked, forgotten or not known at all by so many...

Fretless boards: harder than CA or Epoxy, but still manageable? Does it exist?

Although hating to be longwinded I also want to say that I have a 10 year old .MIM Fender Jazz and the fretboard though it does have some of the same textural qualities as rosewood it is much lighter in color and also seems to be somewhat smoother and harder. It even has a different odor! My...

Fretless boards: harder than CA or Epoxy, but still manageable? Does it exist?

OogieWaWa is correct in everything he said! Rosewood is no cinch to refinish. Most woods are difficult to say the least. Anyone's first attempt to do this will be very frustrating. OogieWaWa understands that the most important part of achieving a quality finish is in careful, meticulous prep...

Fretless boards: harder than CA or Epoxy, but still manageable? Does it exist?

I posted a picture of this awhile back regarding a different topic. It was a $50.00 thrift store find. An indonesian cheaply Squire p-bass special. (P +J pickups) Didn't need it but saw an art project in my head. I'm an auto painter so I did a complete repaint in turquoise including the...
