I have those on all of my basses. It allows me to tune to D in a second. We actually have few songs where I shoot it down to D mid-song for the "extra A$$" as my friend Andy calls it.

Love the colors of that bass too. Have never played one though

Agree. I have a boatload of Hipshots (my favorite tuning machine company) and I always have at least one bass at each gig with an x-tender.

After (reluctantly) giving up my pride and joy 'burst 2012 AmStd and being bass-less for about two months...unless you count a Cort headless P/J and a Spector Legend Classic 5 with a neck like a surfboard (I'd quite frankly rather not play music at all than be saddled with those cows) I finally managed to begin to take steps to relenqish my standing in these hallowed halls of the bass of champions by scoring another 2012 AmStd P in one of my favorite colors. Pics soon!

New to the Forum. Enjoying all the bass talk and pics... wish I joined earlier.

Here is my standard p-bass purchased in 1985. Since it's over 30 years old, I bought it a new tortoiseshell pickguard for Christmas (Installed today).

I managed to get my warranty card validated at the Fullerton address before they closed down. I kept the hanging tag from Guitar Center to remind me the retail price at the time. I'm pretty sure I bought it during a 50% sale because I was working minimum wage at the time... and I doubt I could afford the tagged price + the hardcase.

I participate in a lot of forums, but this is the only music type forum I've joined... and I have to say, it's nice to see posters appreciate things we have a common interested in... instead of ego tripping and critical posters like I'm used to in other forums. Very nice people here I must say. I didn't expect all the like notifications and complements... but I do appreciate it.

Welcome to TB! You may occasionally run into a hint of 'tude, but the mods will address that when needed. And where else is a bass player gonna get any respect?

Yep. That's what makes TalkBass better than any other forum. We have a sense of respect for others even when we don't strongly agree with people's opinions. Yes we may be offended, yes we may get butthurt, but we TRY to address them as peacefully as we can.

Most of us anyways.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a moderator in one of the forums I participate in (paintball)... most are high school college kids... talk about attitude... grrrrrrr. I'm a lot older than most of them (as you can tell by the age of my bass)... but I was in the sport a long time... so I still help out. As for your comment on bass players getting no respect outside this forum, that made me LOL..:)

Urgh....Fed Ex didn't feel like bothering to find my house today or confirming my address (correct from shipper according to tracking, though. Fed EX says it had the wrong zip???) so pics will have to wait. SO frustrating after a very long, stressful week. My 9yr old reminded me that there are worse things in life than having to wait an extra day for my stupid bass. I didn't ask her how she would have felt waking up Christmas morning only for me to tell her Santa bumped it forward one day, lol...that's how it felt!

Rant over

Managed a quick pic before I gave it the once-over. It's a stock used (aside from the black guard) 2012 American Std in Charcoal Frost. This is a discontinued color (as you all likely know) and while many think of it as a modern color, it dates back to the early-mid 60's and I've seen several vintage Jazz masters, P-Basses and J's that have since faded to an almost greenish color. It's in excellent condition and weighs probably between 8-1/2 to 9lbs...perfect! The frets are in great shape too. Practically new!

I am going to put the original parchment guard back on as I'm not too keen on the black but may grab a tort for it, like I had on my first CF Precision.

Nice. The Charcoal Frost is, was, a great color. You're fretboard has some nice grain in it too. Best of luck with it.
