Guitar Scale Acoustic Basses

I have been following this thread for awhile and finally pulled the trigger on an AVNB1E that is scheduled to be delivered on Thursday.

Thanks, I'll post some thoughts and pics later this week. So far I have only played the Taylor GS Mini at GC a few months back, which I thought sounded better than the full scale AB's they had. I was looking to try the PNB14E, but they didn't have any in stock. Seeing as MF sent me a 20% off coupon last week I decided to bite the bullet on the pricier Ibby.
One positive of them not having the PNB14E in stock: I ended up wandering over to browse the EB's they had in stock, with no intention of purchasing any, until I found a brand new SR650 they had on clearance for $260...
(mislabeled by 200 I believe, but they honored it) Yup, she came home with me and I absolutely adore that bass...

Well each have their place and on acoustics I like these synthetic strings for the DB sound and they sure are easy on the fingers with decent slide and no Squeak. But one does have to keep on playing metal quite often to keep the fingers up as well.
Does anyone know anything about Cort's new guitar scale acoustic bass? AB590MF

I've been monitoring this thread hoping to see a hands-on comparison between the PNB14E and the AVNB1E. I can get my hands on 4 or 5 of the PNB models in my area but none of the stores carry the AVN. Trying to figure out if it's worth double the price. I've been able to play the microbasses, the Taylor short scale and Guild as well. In spite of the few hundred $ difference, the PNB14E tops them all in my opinion. Could the AVNB1E be that much better? Let us know what you think, and if you come across the PNB14E please come back to post a comparison!
Fellow Canadians...Apparently Ibanez Canada does carry the PNBs. After getting no comeback from Long and McQuade, I found a shop in Victoria that was an Ibby dealer and he said I could get one special order from Montreal. I phoned Ibanez Canada and they confirmed it. So I'm quite happy to becoming an owner and thanks to all on this thread for the input and recommendations...Cheers!!
Oh good, enough people must have inquired so that they finally got the message. I personally inquired at several dealers who contacted Ibanez Canada and even called Ibby myself last year with no luck. Glad I didn't wait and ordered mine from the US last summer because I've had a ton of fun with it.

Just noticed today that there's also an AVNB2E, in natural gloss finish. Otherwise it is identical to the AVNB1E I think. Both look really nice.

Out of all the *new* stuff, I am most interested in the Michael Kelly Sojourn 4K. I love pinless bridges, and their design is beautiful.

I like that design the best too, I'll have to test it out again. The Guild sounds really nice though .
The Sam Ash near me has the MK Sojourn, short scale Taylor, Ibanez PNB and Gold Tone. I've compared them several times, and I have to say the MK is at the bottom of the list in terms of unplugged tone, volume and presence. It has a really weak, hollow tone. Maybe they shouldn't put that large hole in the side. Definitely worth a hands-on comparison if you can before putting money down for one. Of the short scale basses I've tried, the Guild and Taylor have the best feel and sound, but the Ibanez PNB is a better value, not far behind. (Still waiting to get my hands on the Ibanez AVNB1E or B2E - hoping one of the local stores will get one in sometime)
This is with the caveats that I'm not a super experienced bass player, and also with 4 different sets of strings (some with visible aging damage and spots) a fair comparison is not easy. But to my ears there is a significant, noticeable difference and the MK is far behind the others.
