Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Good to know. May try out a plex as I’ve recently purchased and MBP112 to go with my MB112 combo. Really can’t wait to ride the rails on that thing. I honestly regret selling off my 700rb-II head and I know the plex has a sim for the RB’s on it and more.

Dont worry, Im putting the 700rb to good use with my new Fender active Flea bass

I’m curious, too. I have used my MB200 a number of times with my MBP112 and it works great. Always looking for ways to minimize my rigs.

Not answering the question directly....but...IF it helps...I've ran an MBP115 from a Sansamp PBDDI (using the 1/4" out and usually engaging the +10db switch on the SA), and I also run it from an older GK MBS-lll head. To my ears, both work just fine. Although----with the SA, you'll need to use the "level" control as your master volume, and on the MBS-lll, I essentially lose the ability to blend the preamp's volume and master "output" level to shape tone/growl.

So I received my MB112 and MBP112 to make as a full mini stack to take to the gig last night. In preps for last night I took it down to rehearsal to give them a bit of a trial run and I wasn’t impressed. Not even the band members but they cut me some slack as they blamed the room and the rowdy neighbor across the space as we . So I was hoping it was just that till the actual performance at the gig. I wasn’t impressed... not even the members of the band. In fact they liked the sound of the 115 more than the stack of 12’s which I would initially have to agree since I had better volume/tone coming out of an MB115 than a 112 stack :bored:

So the mini stack is on the classifieds.

For Sale - Gallien Krueger MB112 + MBP112 Stack

Just joined the GK club. I've been using a friends early 90s 800RB and I love it. I wanted to get that sound but with a smaller (newer style) amp. I just got the Legacy 800 , running it through two Trickfish cabs (4x8/1x12) Sounds amazing.

My first guess would be phase cancellation - one of the speakers is out of phase.

Easy way to tell would be to play through just the combo, then add the powered extension.

Does the sound get bigger, or thinner?

The other guess would be EQ; if the settings showing in your classified ad are how the amp was set most recently, you might want to try boosting the low mids.

Those EQ settings seem more apropos for the 115, which is known to be barky in the low mids.

Thanks @groovaholic I’ll give that a shot!

For you or any Legacy owner, can you say what it would have in common and also not, with an RB400IV, RB700, or Fusion500, all of which I am familiar with, if you happen to know any of them well?

This might not help....

Had a chance to put these head-to-head last night at band practice.
(Yes we have a killer jam spot in the singers basement.)
Set the 550 up as seen in the pic. Everything flat. No contour. Gain at Noon. Master at 8:30.
Barely touched it all night. In the end I gave the Upper Mids a little push to cut through.

Sound was full and rich, punchy with clarity yet a little gritty too.
Didn't even need a pedal all night except for some chorus for one song.
No clipping - even on my hard hits when I hit some shots with the drummer.
As per earlier feedback, it just seemed to compress those hits a little and get a little grittier/unfocused

I switched back and forth for most of the night - but in the end - the 550 won out and I just left that plugged in.

The M6 was more aggressive, focused, punchier and stayed clean longer. Also a great sounding amp IMO.
The 550 had more depth and richness to its tone which I really liked. 3d vs 1D if you know what I mean.
The 550 fit the band better. In the mix while still cutting through - versus the M6 sitting on top of the mix.

I got a killer deal on the M6 so its not going anywhere for awhile.
The competition will continue....
Funny but I’ve posted a couple of threads on the M6 but when I played one today the fan noise was too much. At least for me. I played through a GK Legacy but only for a few minutes and think I need to revisit that one. I have recently purchased Mesa 2x12 traditional that I'm hoping to pair it to.
For a passive bass, P , J, Ric, not huge volume , jam and recording, which would you prefer?

New Legacy 800 owner here, about 10 gigs into it. I’m very familiar with the MB500, having gigged it and its MB500Fusion cousin for the last 8 years. I also owned an RB400 & an RB800 but it’s been a while. What I can say is that the Legacy is very much in the family. Consider though that I felt the MB series captured the RB DNA as well, and am not sure all would agree. To me the L800 is much like my MB’s but with a little more touch-sensitivity. I’m digging the extra “growl” that’s similar to my old 800RB, as I recall it. I also like the overdrive design. I routinely used a “boost” or “B-channel “ setting on both MB’s for a grittier solo tone. I found that very easy to dial in and footswitch on the Legacy as well, but having 3 controls vs 1 has been really more fun. I’m still dialing it in, but liking it more all the time. As for 800 vs 500 watts, I can’t really tell the difference. Both my MB’s and the Legacy have way more horsepower in reserve than I’ve needed to date. It’s nice though to know I can safely run 2 4-ohm cabs out of 1 head if I wish to - I just haven’t needed to, ever.

New Legacy 500 owner here, with 4 times with the band - two rehearsals and two worship services. No problems at all with Legacy, but have been struggling to make my stage footprint as small as it can be. Today was great. My wife recorded us and today's sound engineer said she spent about two minutes just tweaking the bass. She said basically that she didn't need to do anything to it other than lower some mids.
I switched back to DR Flats on the Warwick, so I had to totally redo the intonation all last week. Took several days but today it sounded rock solid. Played both passive and active, and with active I can back off the treble, and not touch the bass. IEM today sounded great as I could hear my bass strings much more clearly than when going through a DI box. I'm a happy camper. Oh, when I play on active I do have to back off the TRIM dial as the clip light was flashing a bit. Finally left it at about 1 o'clock, where I left it on full with passive mode. And this was weird but when the clip light flashed on the Legacy it also flashed on the Behringer 16-channel mixer, so I backed the limiter back to about 2 o'clock on it.

Comparing the RB700 and the MB500 I missed the airiness and liveliness of the RB700 in the MB 500 and went with the RB700... Do you think the Legacy series is closer to the RB series when you say it is more touch sensitive? This would be nice - I can feel GAS already ...

My memory of the RB series is limited to the 800RB, and a 400 I owned so long ago I honestly don’t remember much except that I liked it a lot. The Legacy does capture some of the feel of the 800RB that the MB’s don’t, but I’d need to a/b them to say how much. Even if it’s midway between the MB & RB signatures, it’s a lot of fun so far, and my remaining MB is now my backup option (and a good one).

Hey Guys, especially the more senior cadre- you know who you are.
Input solicited. Now working with a band using the dreaded IEM's.
Mine are on order. I'm squirming like a worm on a hook because I just
know, I'm gonna lose my beloved 700RB> 215 rig tone. ATP not
even sure of how to properly route the setup even using the RB.
The BL/ guitar/ vocalist doesn't even run an amp at all. Think he's
an alien. He and daughter voc both Senn G3. The (acoustic)
drummer runs a wired PSM200. Do I need to keep the 700RB
in the chain to keep the tone or does GK (doubt it) or any other
mfg. make an active DI that will deliver? Sad emoji.

GK Plex?

How do you usually run your amp? Might still be able to use it if you want, taking a feed from the DI out.

No. 700RBII into a vented 215 w Eminence Delta's. Assuming the DI out would otherwise feed the board unless I first run to the IEM transmitter XLR in, then 1/4" loop out the back to the FOH channel strip. I want the RB tone (even tho it loses the mechanical spkr feel) back into my ears.
Post eq, boost, contour etc.
Edit- there's the FX send and tuner out pre/ post eq. I just don't want the
FOH feeding his "tampered" bass send to my IEM.

That way you get everything minus the power amp in the FOH

And boost and the HPF.

A "post" DI feed (from the RB) is actually a more true representation as it includes those as well. You could always split the signal after the GK DI - even sending the signal for your ears (or also for FOH) through a cab sim of your choosing first.
