Strings for a 1967 Rickenbaker 4006 six string bass

I own a 1967 4006 bass and am trying to see if anyone knows what the string gauges are for this
First off, congrats on the rare bird.
Second off, I presume you want to tune it as factory-intended i.e. EADGBE, or its all-fourths variant EADGCF, and not to the modern standard BEADGC (not that there's anything wrong about the latter: some Modulus sixers from the Eighties had really narrow spacing; you'd have to file the nut for larger gauges though).

If so, and unless Ric comes back to you with the exact gauges, start with either the D'Addario EXL156 or the Fender Super 250 B6. Do, or have someone do, a decent setup, then give them a fair spin until you figure out what aspects you don't like, if any. Be aware most alternatives will entail buying four-string sets plus single high C and F strings.

According to the Rickenbacker price list for 1980, the string set in question was S4460 and the gauges were along the lines of .02x, .03x, .045, .056, .077, and.103. I can't determine the exact gauges for the two lightest strings as they are not listed on the bulk strings list.

I never had any trouble using standard 34” scale strings on a 33.25” scale Ric. Some string sellers list “speaking length”, which excludes the silk windings. I’ve had pretty good luck with Juststrings.com, they seem to actually respond to emails, I tracked down some hard to find Steinberger double ball strings through them.
