Sub-Short Scale Talk

Hey Mike. I have a fretless 21” scale blue Hadean that I can’t find flatwound strings for. Tried both Kala and Gali flat and black rounds. They fit my Kala acoustic/electric, but are too short for my Hadean. Any recommendations?
Do you reckon the lengths of
1) string between bridge saddle and back-of-bridge ball-end anchoring, and
2) nut to E-string tuning post would add up to at least 4 inches?

If so, check out the Pyramid 235 set

If said extra length amounted to at least 5.5", the '23 inch' version of the Kala KA-BASS-4FW (a.k.a. Galli UXB910C), with its larger gauges, may perhaps be a better fit on a 21" scale instrument:

(I believe you've already tried the 20.5" version, and verified it's too short for the Hadean solid-body.)

Tried both Kala and Gali flat and black rounds.
One thing you could try, if you still have the 20.5 version of the flats, is reinstall them after shaving back the silks at the headstock end, in hope the exposed final full-diameter section of each string clears the nut.
This shaveback operation I would only attempt with the flats, *not* the Galli black nylon roundwounds, lest they unravel.

That’s a good suggestion. But I’ve put the rounds on it, the flats on my other U-Bass. I could swap em back though. Then hope the string lives through the surgery.

I've used the Kala/Galli 23" version, and I've also cut back the silk on the shorter version, both ways have worked for me.

I have the Galli flats on two of my 21" HB Ukes. Both sets had the silk on the E String much longer than the other strings and they replaced the string. I also have the Aquila spirals on my Fender Uke which is 20.5 but has a long headstock. They were pretty long over 31"

I always forget the Aquila Flat Spirals!
...In part because I have no info on their gauges nor the winding length of the different versions.
This is the 200U (18-21 inch scale version) *

1) Is 31" the total length, tip to toe? How long (more or less, if you can't or won't take them off the instrument to measure) is their full-thickness length, i.e. from the ball-end up to where the E-string tapers?
2) Or did you mean they do not taper until the very tip, and are meant to go on the tuning post (and through the post slot) untapered?

The longer Aquila Flat Spirals (210U set), if it is really for 23-26 inch scale (26 being the operative figure),

is in every likelihood too long for @rrgramps's Hadean.
[Unless these Aquilas don't taper at all, as I asked @Bodeeni above.]

Oh, and another thing:
just found out the Pyramid set I mentioned Invalid Link Removed is not only sold at Thomann, but also at Strings by Mail

Where I also discovered its actual part number is "639 100" - good to know.

I got a Vox Apache 1 bass and I noticed that the volume only works when the drive knob is turned on. So I can only play with drive, does anyone had the same issue ? I checked the circuit and connections but there is no sign of damage or shorting.
