I missed this post before... A bias towards Lakland or MTD is irrelevant in this case, because I was comparing the different types of Fenders with each other, not to any other brand. And honestly, I've never had a chance to play an American Lakland so I couldn't compare them to anything...

As far as the setup comments go, I totally understand how GC would be the last place you'd expect to find a well-setup guitar... but the rough frets? And I'm not talking about one little rough edge on just the 13th fret, every single fret felt sharp and jagged on a MIA P Special that I tried...

I have the same bass, and it really does get a good p-bass tone, IMO. With some decent strings on her trough a good amp, this baby will thump! Bump!
