Just purchased a 1961 Jazz Bass

Did you paypal to that big dodgy email address on the ebay page, or deal directly with the dealer?

The actual auction ebayer has a storefront:

They have a phone number, etc. I'd hold or cancel payment and call them first thing in the morning and talk to them. Clarify and verify.

To me, the condition of the body(in all it's relicness) doesn't seem to match the condition of the hardware (pickup covers and such). To me, the chrome should be a bit more oxidized with some scratches and such. I mean, how did the bass get all beat up and the rest of the bass didnt'.

I suggest you take the bass apart and check out all the dates/serial numbers/pot numbers.

Definitely a pre-64 decal. Pre-64 decals have four patent numbers, post-64 decals have five. Also, the "offset contour body" moved to the end of the headstock by 64.

Is it possible that the winner of the original auction decided he didn't want the bass after all, and put it back on eBay using pics from the auction he won?
(Improbable, but not entirely implausible)

LOL to this thread. It was a scammer post. The bass is real, a real pre-cbs jazz, but it already sold in a different auction for $11,000.

OP can easily have his money refunded in his Paypal account, they have fantastic buyer protection.

And everyone who was pointing out all of the things that make this Jazz a "fake" LOL.

It's the real deal dudes, just not a real auction.

The serial number is accurate for a 1961 but in my opinion, the bass is a fake.

While that auction is a scam, those are pictures of a real 61 Jazz. I now remember the original auction from that bass, it had a pickup rout mod under the pickguard, but no pickup ever installed. But that is a real 61.

I was under impression eBay/Paypal rules require use of eBay resolution center to get refunds for eBay purchases (rather than requesting refund directly from Paypal). Won't Paypal outright reject a refund request of an eBay purchase, telling the buyer to resolve via eBay? Maybe things have changed, but that's how I thought it worked.

Nevertheless, rather than wait all the time it takes for the resolution process (which includes waiting for a shipment which will never occur), I would call eBay customer support and see if there is a way to bypass the resolution center for such an obvious scam. I think the OP is protected as long as he purchased via eBay, but it will involve some time, effort and stress to resolve. Try to minimize the stress by understanding that you will get your $ back in the end.

"Contact me at this number, not through eBay" ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS means scam, and a hacked account. It really, honestly NEVER means anything else.

I think you'll be fine though if you paid with a card through Paypal though.
