I would only want to replace the 'stang pups with p bass pups because i like to rest my thumb on the top of the pup and i find this hard to do on a mustang. Yes, i know i could adopt the floating thumb technique, and i still might. I'm just wondering what it would cost to put in P bass pickups...

Pros of getting the Fender: Nicer fit n finish, better quality parts, perhaps a little better sound. I could find one USED for about $5-600 on ebay or a similar site. Pros of getting the Squier: CHEAPER. I could get one NEW for about $250 on Amazon. I'm trying to be wise with my money...

I've heard from some people that they have a hard time playing with their thumb on the top of the pickup (which is how I play) of the fender/squier mustangs. what are your thoughts on this? is it not a big deal?

I know the Fender mustangs do, but do the Squiers? I only care because i've heard that it may increase the sustain a little bit, which isn't the greatest on a mustang because it's a short scale.

I have heard that the jag has more tonal options, but that the mustang has a more distictive tone, what would you list as the pros and cons of both? Btw i'm talking shortscale for both basses.
