I'm going to be deployed in the military in a hot, dry environment in the Middle East, and I'm not sure if I should buy an electric upright bass to keep up the practice or if I should just continue mastering the bass guitar since I'm finally getting good at that, and put the upright bass in the...
My jazz teacher is mainly making me focus on my bass guitar technique and repitore, so lessons aren't focused on upright bass too much. I'm getting too much hand pain from over playing snd and bad technique, and currently I can't afford private lessons till next semester . I'm going to save up...
I'm not sure if this have to do with my previous arm injury, but everyone keeps noticing that the buzzing sound from play URB is from not putting enough pressure on the strings(common issue with beginners). My teacher recommend I should do hammer on exercise to help build up muscles. Should I...
My teacher wanted me to use the pinkey and ring finger to play the 7 and the eight scale degree. I'm finding this uncomfortable and I prefer to shift to using my pointer finger and middle finger to play the bass lines. He says it's better to get more "strength" by using them independently, but I...
So I've been playing for a couple a weeks and now I've gotten strong enough to play basics blues and scales. I've played a stagg in store, and was surprised on how light it is to play. I might just get it to run through scales when I can't play my DB.
So I've been practicing some scales that my teacher has given me, where I run up chromatically up to four notes using open strings as the beginning notes. The problem I tend to have is when I'm going back down the scale to the open notes, on the half step before the open note I tend to be a...
I'm currently taking online lines, and we're just focusing on holding the bass and plucking. When I try to hold the the strings, they seem pretty stiff and I have to use the all four fingers to press them down. Is it possible to use lower tension strings to make things easier, or is it pointless...
Hello TalkBass Community,
I hope this post finds everyone well. I'm presently grappling with some issues regarding my bass guitar and am seriously considering making a transition to Double Bass. I would greatly appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or insights you can share with me.

Hi guys, this morning I was trying to get the bass guitar audible on the FOH mix. Before going to the PA, I use a xrl main output from my personal mixer to the PA. It's a Behringer 1222x, so I'm not sure if the preamps or if the bass frequencies needs to be cut before the volume needs to be boosted.
I'm in church band. Band leader gives a set of songs to practice. After rehearsal, they decide which four songs out of the 11 they want to play on Sunday and the key they want to play in. This is really annoying sometimes as some songs are really weird to transpose, and those songs tend to take a...
Been having hand/shoulder pain for years and it would make playing painful. I switched to slide after playing a little lap steel. It made things better, I only wish I can play fast like normal bassists.
I'm covering songs from video game music that is often really unfriendly on bass guitar, so I have to rearrange the bass lines to make them easier to play. Sometimes when I do that, I get the bass lines a little jumbled in my head, and if I play the wrong riff, I tend to improvise so I don't...
Hello, I'm currently learning bass guitar and I looking to focus on tehcnique. The local teachers I've gotten tutoring from have been ok, but they don't really focus on learning technique and proper posture and music reading.(and a lot of them tend to be guitar players) The current one I have...
Hello, I was wondering if there was a different slap bass technique for small string spacing. I had troubles in the past with this bass guitar Google Image Result for...
So, I want to get in the Army band. They gave me a list of genres to play(country,jazz,R&B,Pop/Rock, and Latin). If I had 6 hours after work, would that be enough enough with homework, drums, and singing?
Just did a rehearsal where we've gotten the songs last minute with no time to go over them. Then the day after I've gotten a text with at least 9 songs on top of the 4 we already did. This is literally giving me high blood pressure.
