From Bass Rigs to UFOs: I Finally Wrote the Sci-Fi/Metalhead Novel That’s Been Living in My Head for Years

I'm confused, and I wish you all the best with the book, but your comments here feel like they're written by ChatGPT...the long ones in particular....

Changing to BEAD - can I drill my high mass bridge?

I was more thinking about the chrome plating than anything. I can definitely enlarge the hole, but will it be OK afterwards? I'll take another string out and see what that's like inside. It might not even be chromed for all I know!

Changing to BEAD - can I drill my high mass bridge?

As per the title really! The B string is too thick for the former E string hole in the tail of the bridge. Can I just drill through it or do I need to protect it afterwards? It's the Leo Quan Badass II: Allparts Leo Quan Badass II Bass Bridge | Chrome | Allparts UK Ltd I know that I also need...

I ordered a comp and forget to asked the hive.

I got a Cali76 earlier this week and honestly, I hated it. It added a tune tone that I couldn’t get away from, and took all the bite out of my jazz bass. I’ve sold it in for a profit! I have an EBS Multicomp, have all dials set at 12, and the active switch off despite having an active bass, and...

It's still an option we have as I recorded straight out of my pedal board, as well as miked my cab.

Source Audio Aftershock - is there anything it can't do??

I think I've concluded that I need a clean boost and that the Darkglass Alpha Omicron isn't useful to me. I might give the Darkglass Harmonic Booster a go

Source Audio Aftershock - is there anything it can't do??

Well you really get foot switch one or two, and then flick the switch 1-3! I think it's manageable if you don't have to do it a lot

Source Audio Aftershock - is there anything it can't do??

I very strongly recommend it! I am using it live though irtually all the time

Source Audio Aftershock - is there anything it can't do??

You're right. I really like the Darkglass tone for certain things though - certainly not for everything. The Aftershock just seems to do a great job of it as well! I think it could do with having two footswitches. I really hate the way in which you switch between patches.

Source Audio Aftershock - is there anything it can't do??

I've had the Aftershock on my board since Christmas last year. Every time I try something else for boost/distortion, I end up thinking, "the aftershock can do this." For example, I've just added a Darkglass Alpha Omicron to my board. It's got a high end that I really like, and obviously you...

That is incredibly cool. The description is great. Now I want one.

    Flea does Jaco

A lot of people here are very binary, and many are probably a bit too stuck in their own echo chambers. There's also an abundance of knowledge here, which we all appreciate. (I'm sure you know this, just wanted to agree with you)

She doesn’t growl captain. Me Fender Jazz!!

I had to lower mine recently because my E string was getting a chorus sound to it!

    Flea does Jaco

I don't think he plays with an amp at home. If you ever see him playing outside a studio, in his own environment, he's never amped.

    Recording options for bass

Thanks for your input guys. I ended up doing the DI with the miked amp, and it sounded great. As you suggest, the engineer can now do what he wants with it knowing what I'd like to hear. Recording was a lot of work, though. I did many, many takes to get it right. We are recording in the...

    Recording options for bass

I said engineer, but that may have been the wrong language. We are recording the parts ourselves, but will then be sending our recordings to someone else to mix and master them. Problem here is that I don't fully understand the process so I can't use the right language. I don't know the...

The $399 Joe Dart Bass by SBMM

You’re not wrong, they seem like fantastic instruments. But I can’t help but feel annoyed that we have to pay £200 more to get the same thing in a country where salaries are much less, making it comparatively even more expensive. At £325 it felt affordable. At £525, not so much.

    Recording options for bass

Hi guys, Just trying to work out the best thing to do for recording bass. I had an amp with a cab sim, but I don't have that any more. That was great, but I have a different amp now (Ampeg SVT7 Pro) and it has a DI out, but no cab sim. I also have a very nice cab - Barefaced Two10 - and I'd...

    Sire Bass Club!

That's what I was guessing - definitely a converted sized as no one really sells 2.6 mm screws. They go in mm and probably 0.5 mm and then 0.1 mm I would have though. Thanks though

Thanks for that. I don't understand the 26 - 26 mm is basically an inch! Is it some other measurement?

    Sire Bass Club!

I got a reply regarding screws. My question was specifically about the Sire v7 2nd gen. They use WP2635, which is confusingly not on the list.

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

I gave it another go and taking out the dry signal from the pedals helped, but they were still incredibly quiet compared to the dry. Which is frustrating because the fuzz sounded amazing, but I’m when I disengaged the pedal, the output was dramatically louder.
  29. dirtychinchilla

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

Yup, I did. I think the problem may be that the effects already mix in the dry signal, so then I'm sort of doubling up on the bass.

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

I really wanted to, and I may have done it wrong, but the tone came out 90% bass despite my trying to use the FX mix knob. How would you suggest I do it?

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

It does, but the fuzz sounds like turd. My understanding is that you need a cab to make it sound healthy.

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

Hah, thanks. I need to get a wider one tbh, that bass is heavy.

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

Thanks! Though I have no doubt that it'll change :) Here's me and the bass - Sire V7 2nd gen, 5-string. I think I'm in pain here rather than playing something really difficult - sciatica.

NAD and NCD - been an expensive month!

I went down a serious money spending rabbit hole this month, but selling in some other bits I should come out on top! I had a Darkglass Microtubes 500 V2, but the tone really wasn't doing it for me. Maybe I'll live to regret that...who knows! So I found an Ampeg SVT-7 Pro locally and got that...

    Questions on the SVT-7 Pro

I ended up ordering an AKG Perception P2. On another note, I much prefer the tube delivered in the amp. It's a ECC 83S. Never heard of it! But i'll look it up tomorrow to see what people say about it compared to the 12AX7. Definitely getting less tube distortion.
