    Official Ampeg Portaflex Club

I should mention that this is all a little nit-picky as I have been using this setup since shortly after they came out with generally pleasing results. I just feel like things could be a little better from experiences I've had playing through a B15 or an SVT, where the tone just felt easier...

thanks, this is something I'll look into...I have had the thought that I would like to be able to notch out the more troublesome frequencies and maybe try some compression. I use passive instruments, usually some sort of P Bass, no pedals. Settings on the PF50T are something like this: Gain...

    Official Ampeg Portaflex Club

Hey PortaFolks, I’ve been using the PF50-T with a PF112hlf for the last several years and have been fairly satisfied. Sometimes I feel like the 112 doesn’t quite have the definition of pitch that I want and sounds a little “boxy” if that makes sense. It also tends to sound a little boomy...

I'm pretty sure it's not a ground issue, as I pushed that button while hearing the hum with no effect. Also it's intermittent and i have never heard a ground hum up in that frequency.

    HOT AMPEG NEWS! PF20T, PF50T, PF112HLF

I'm hoping someone might have some insight as to why my Pf-50t seems to have developed a high hum from the transformer/balance out. Last week I played 5 shows at 3 different venues with two basses using the transformer out into the house systems. I heard a little bit of this hum in and out...

Not a poll, but do you prefer active or passive & why,,

I prefer Passive these days. It makes me feel like more of a musician, if that makes sense...using my hands to affect tone rather than knobs.... Not that it isn't possible to do with an active instrument, but it is easier for me to get to know and manipulate a passive bass. in other words, i...

I just checked the gear list of the studio and I think he does have one of those "UREI 1176LN" ...I don't know anything about this stuff, but I think I'll end up bringing the Ampeg.

    HOT AMPEG NEWS! PF20T, PF50T, PF112HLF

I just received the PF-50T and PF-112 hlf this week! I went with the 112 purely to keep the weight as low as possible. This will be the first tube amp I've owned...the tone is something special...really digging it. So far, I am really impressed with how much power this thing puts out...seems...

    Bandmates prefer Jazz Basses...

If you have the opportunity to record rehearsals, maybe try a rehearsal with the jazz and one with the Precision. When you go into the studio, you might find that one is a better choice than the other for a given tune. nothing wrong with playing two basses.

Squier SQ MIJ- worn frets...what would you do?

Here is an update: New neck installed...allparts with ebony fingerboard, hipshot HB2s, Detuner. Plays well! minimal setup. It's fatter than I'm used to on an electric bass...not a bad thing...it actual feels pretty good

Squier SQ MIJ- worn frets...what would you do?

Some good input. I have no real attachment to the bass and it already has replaced pickups and bridge, so I'm more interested in having a nice playing p bass than keeping it original. It looks like bassparts resource has an allparts 60s style neck that would have similar specs to the original...

Squier SQ MIJ- worn frets...what would you do?

I have Japanese squier 1983/84 P bass with frets that are low enough to not be able to take a dressing. The repair guys said there is slight twist in the neck which wouldn't be a big deal if there was enough life in the frets to work with to compensate. I could spend $325 on a refret, but that...

    HOT AMPEG NEWS! PF20T, PF50T, PF112HLF

Awesome! sounds promising with frequency centers as you describe... that's the problem with a lot of amps for upright... you get to a certain point with eq and have nowhere left to go to get a natural sound. I don't often play gigs with two basses in one night, so messing with eq wouldn't be...

    HOT AMPEG NEWS! PF20T, PF50T, PF112HLF

Can anyone speak to how well these might perform with upright? I ask because the few chances I've had over the years to plug into a vintage Ampeg fliptop, I was amazed how easy it is to get a great sound. (Amplifying an upright bass can be a struggle, for those who haven't tried it). I would...
