Imperfect Realism or Fabricated Perfection - which would you rather hear?

Thanks for all the comments. One of the main themes of the album is self-acceptance and honesty -so when the tech mentionned that we could paste together the best parts I wasn't quite sure if that's what I want to do... The songs being solo bass pieces is a new and major challenge for me...

Imperfect Realism or Fabricated Perfection - which would you rather hear?

I've started studio sessions for my upcoming album of solo bass pieces and I'm debating with myself....should I choose whole takes that have a good general feel and flow but with a few technical flaws (fret buzz, mildly imperfect picking) or take the best parts from multiple takes and put them...

I can double thumb... what now?

I had some free time and started exploring Victor's double thumbing approach - concentrating on the thumbing and thinking of adding the plucking later - but I never got around to it because there are so many different ways to use the double thumbing approach to be explored. It got me...

Bass Lessons - Slap Bass Technique

I haven't really thought about trying to get Jaco's tone with thumb picking. The tone of the attack is very different from fingerstyle because on down stokes it's a fleshy part of the thumb hitting the string and on upstrokes part thumbnail and part side of the thumb - so you get a different...

Bass Lessons - Slap Bass Technique

I've been asking myself the same question about how to notate string muting. In developing my Link Removed technique, I've been experimenting with 4 different approaches for muting i.e. left hand fingers, left hand thumb, right hand thumb and right hand palm. I have yet to find an...

Solo bass piece w. thumbpicking and tremolo

Thanks for your comment. The trem is a Kahler 7400 - plays great! Throughout the piece I'm trying to stretch and compress the time a little to make it a little more melodic and to create variations on the repeated parts. Seeing as I'm playing alone, I try to get out of 'groove mode' - which...

Am I wrong to think electronics companies should try harder??

Thanks for all the feedback. What get's me mad is not the fact that the DVD reorder-player broke. It's the fact that the company doesn't care. If I didn't give a hoot about the quality of my playing, sound, style and attitude I wouldn't have worked very long as a free-lance bassist...

Need help to not rushing eighth and sixteenth notes!

What helped me get my sixteenth notes more solid was practicing accent displacement with a metronome i.e. play constant 16th notes:1 bar accentuating the 1st 16th note, 1 bar accentuating the 2nd sixteenth note etc. To get a feel for it you can use ghost notes on the notes that you're not...

    I'm missing fingers...am I screwed?

I think that if someone wants to play the bass with his nose - he could. IMHO, just have to decide to take the time to make it work... There's lots of good advice here. In the last few years I've been working on playing with my thumb as a pick as inspired by Victor Wooten. It's a different tone...

    Favorite basslines?

It's very hard to choose just one and in only one style, but since you mentionned metal... I'm old school (maybe just getting old :)) but when I was in my teens I remember having lots of fun with Steve Harris's line in Losfer Words. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rze8K3dUWyU
