    Gretsch Broadkaster Tuner question

Thanks pilgrim, I'll try stretching the strings see what happens. I dont think ive had his issue on any of my solid body basses - but I'll pay close attention as the strings break in. She is definitely a short scale bass - strings fit perfectly. Thanks again!

    Gretsch Broadkaster Tuner question

Hi all, I bought a Gretsch Broadkaster used from Guitarcenter a few months back. The sales guy said it was from the 80s - wonderful bass, my first hollow body. I threw some short scale TI flats on it and it plays so easy and beautifully - gets a wonderful smooth yet thumpy/punchy sound (the...

    Light Amp for Gigging

Fender Rumble 2 x 8 cab with 350 head. The cab weighs 28 pounds - real nice set up. A lot of folks rave about the Genz Benz - I tried it, plays nice - not nice enough for the price bump over the Fender. I play a fretless Musicman Stingray through it in a traditional jazz group with horns...

    Double Bass Good 'crossover' EUB

Thanks Jobo4 - I just read posts and reviews for about an hour, the Dean Pace is probably what I am going to go for. Gets a lot of flack from upright players - but from what I can tell the players that were doing what I'm trying to do it works well. $500 bucks, minus whatever deal...

    Double Bass Good 'crossover' EUB

I've been playing electric bass on and off for 23 years. Currently playing in a traditional/new orleans style jazz band using a fretless electric bass. With the right setup it actually works quite well, but we may start to work on Mardi Gras gigs, and visually it would be nice to see an...

GB Shuttle 6.0 and the Fender Rumble 350

Well I've been using the 350 head with the 2 x 8 cabinet for rehearsal with my Dixieland group - plenty of headroom with that set up. If I add the 1 x 12 it would give me even more, I'd be comfortable in almost any venue with my group. It really is a nice set up, as I mentioned definitely...

Do you use any particular method book to reenforce 124 fingering with your students?

    124 fingering on electric bass.

Great thread - I am a comeback player and used Ed Friedland's Hal Leonard book to get back into playing. This was my intro to 124 fingering - completely transformed how I play vs when I stopped many years ago. I agree with the other folks about Simandl as well - it has specific 124 fingerings...

Double Bass Rubank Americana Collection for String Bass

Hi Steve, There actually used to be a 'String Bass' book - in fact if you look in the back of the conductor score it is still listed there. But current production just says 'Basses' which is basically Tuba. I called Hal Leonard on this, they said its out of production. No luck on eBay, so I...

    Fender Rumble 2 x 8 or 1 x 12 Cabinet Covers

I think you're right - I'm working with D2F right now $60 a piece! But I cant see letting these collect dust, especially since the 1X12 will sit unless I have a gig.

GB Shuttle 6.0 and the Fender Rumble 350

I took a look at that cabinet, it looks real nice. Do you have the 4 or 8 ohm? Also, I'm guessing you're using you Shuttle head with it - why did you choose that cab over the Shuttle 2 x 10? Just curious.

GB Shuttle 6.0 and the Fender Rumble 350

Well, by the time I got to the music store the GB Shuttle 6.2 w/12 cab was sold...only took the guy 4 days! Interestingly he is a bass player and agrees with everyone on the forum that the GB 6.2/12 setup is the best selling lightweight - but he believes the 2x10 is superior. He did have a 9.0...

    Fender Rumble 2X8 Cab

The 2 x 8 is my go to right now - I just got it and love how it sounds. I have the 1 x 12 too, truthfully it sounds great with bot cabs - I just use the 2 x 8. I like the response and tight sound I get for what I play. Just to put things in context, I am a hobbiest (I don't get paid to play)...

Genz Benz Shuttle 6 vs Fender Bassman 350

After all that I ended up getting the fender 350 with 2 x 8 and 1 x 12 cabs - it was too good a deal to pass up. I posted more about it on another thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/gb-shuttle-6-0-fender-rumble-350-a-816835/index2.html#post12576752

GB Shuttle 6.0 and the Fender Rumble 350

350 with cabs arrived today. Nice set up, I really like how simple it is and that the horns can be adjusted. After fooling around with it for a short period I get the sound I need. The rig definitely sounds better with both cabs, but I'll probably only haul the 12 to rehearsal. I'm not...

GB Shuttle 6.0 and the Fender Rumble 350

Interesting, I started a different thread because on closer inspection the Rumble 350 and Shuttle 6.0 have a VERY close power rating. So I wanted to get someone who has played them both to chime in. I picked up the 350 with both cabs (2x8 and 1 x 12), should be here today. I'll have a chance...

Double Bass Rubank Americana Collection for String Bass

The concert band I'm in uses this collection for performances, I hate doubling on tuba music! I've looked on Amazon, Sheetmusic plus, eBay and some other online sources without success - can anyone tell me where I can find a copy of this?

Genz Benz Shuttle 6 vs Fender Bassman 350

I thought he shuttle was the way to go, but haven't been able to find a thread that compared them side by side. They have similar ratings through 8 ohm speakers - and one TBer really liked the Fender. So do I snap up one of those close out 6.0's or pay full boat for the 6.2?

Genz Benz Shuttle 6 vs Fender Bassman 350

I'm interested in the head plus 12" cabinet for use with a 20 - 30 piece woodwind/brass concert band...no plans for competing with guitars right now, but the brass section can bring volume. Currently playing a Roland Cube 60XL - excellent practice amp and for small ensemble, but doesn't...

Keeping basses in cases vs. hanging them on a rack?

I always thought hanging was better for the neck than leaving on a stand - because traction from the weight of the body on the neck offsets the string tension, keeping it from bowing...not sure, just what I heard.

    Fretless Jazz...without the fret lines!!

Hi, I'm new here, but not new to bass - I'm a comeback player after about 10 years. I played Rock, Blues, and Pop on an American Fender Jazz my entire time on playing (I guess 10 - 15 years prior to my break). Currently, my primarily instrument is trumpet and became very interested in...

This is a great thread - thank you all for helping me make the decision to but the Fender TV Duo...just got it today. I'm a comeback player, haven't really played for about 10 or 12 years. I used to play a Standard Fender Jazz through a Crate 200 head on an old Marshall 15" cabinet...it was...

Modern Reading Text in 4/4...info + help!

Hi Raul, a teacher gave me Modern Reading about 20 years ago and said to use it - never told me how, so it sat on my shelf until about 1 month ago. Now that I've been playing music off and on for 23 years (most recently trumpet), I totally see the value in working through this book. It is...
