    The dreaded search for tone...

I currently use a gk 700rb ii, and I love it but when I try other amps, especially class d amps(markbass, ampeg, genz) they just seem like they are missing something and I think I figured it out. They don't have the boost knob that my gk has. Now my question: I've never got a chance to use the...

    So I wasn't a fan of markbass...

Until I tried the ny 121 through my gk 700rb mkii. I was dumbfounded by the tone I was getting. Needless to say, I have a second one on order. It's nice that 2 of these are lighter than 1 of my cabs. This is a plus as well.

    From 15s to 12s

I'm pondering the idea of downsizing my current setup, which right now is a gk 700rb mii, and 2 avatar tb-153s. If I was to switch to 2 12s, what are my pros a cons? Has anyone made a switch to this type of rig? I love the beef that I bring with my 153s. The lows will dislodge your brain...

Bass that you found easiest to play (ever)?

My new G&L M-2000. I finally found that bass where I can dial in any tone I need.

G&L Tribute JB@ or Warwick Rockbass Streamer

I've played both, and own a usa G&L m2000. The tributes are IMO the best bass you can get at that price range. I'm just not a Warwick guy, I can't seem to get a good tone when I play them.

Not heavy a all. Just a bit to make those g string pops come through a little more. Thanks for all the input though guys, it definitely helped

Need advice on mic'ing my cab or to just di as usual

I only bump the tweeter a bit, like a little less than a quarter, just enough to make my slap punch on the high notes. Now that I look at it it does seem like it's not important haha but there is a method to the madness.

    G&L Club Part 7

Hey guys, I was never able to get my hands on a g&l pbass. And for some reason I've been wanting a pbass lately. How do they compare to MIA fenders(I know it's a loaded question) differences in feel, tone, quality, that sort of thing. How does the tribute version compare to MIM fenders? I'm...

P bass fans: What is your preferred fingerboard radius and why?

My spector has a 16" radius, my g&l has a 12", both are very comfy. When I play slap style the 12 feels the best for those left hand ghost note thumps and bumps IMO. In regards to the sizes you asked for, OP, I like 9.5. Little more comfortable if you are moving around the neck.

    Which J-Bass lookalike?

G&L tributes. Best basses for the money in my opinion.

Need advice on mic'ing my cab or to just di as usual

Thanks for the advice. I played upright bass for close to 8 years and within the last 2 years just got back into electric and building my rig back up so I'm basically clueless lol. I've read about guys bringing their own di boxes, bringing the higher quality stuff. Is that a good option to get...

Need advice on mic'ing my cab or to just di as usual

I know nothing about a sound guys job so maybe you guys can give me some advice. I use a tb-153 and I use a little bit of the tweeter for my tone. According to how everyone describes these cabs, and I do hear this when there is a backlined bass cab, it doesn't color the tone of the amp being...

Not another Tube vs SS thread...

Rent a tube and record both, pick the one that sounds best for the song. That's what I did on my bands first ep. I don't have a link to the song itself but if you go to Link Removed and listen to "take it hard, take it easy" I recorded with an ampeg b15. The reason I'm saying this song is cuz it...

    Does price = quality/sound

The euros and the usa basses all use the same necks. That's why there's not much of a difference but better finishes on the top woods.
  24. L

    Does price = quality/sound

I was comparing their quality control and the actual value of the instrument. I don't care if there's 10x more players, pick up 5 usa jazz standards they all sound different and you're lucky if one of them is actually a decent bass. You're also playing for a high quality finish on the Spector...

Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray4 and Ray5, Part 2

I liked it a lot and I usually hate the way a low b string sounds on any bass(go ahead, get the torches, I know) you really can't go wrong at all for the price, definitely a great first 5er
  27. L

    Does price = quality/sound

The price break is how bad you want that blood wood top on a walnut body with a wedge neck and pale moon ebony fretboard. Hand carved from a tree that the Buddha once meditated under. The other thing to remember is technique and what you are playing through
  28. L

    Does price = quality/sound

For the record I just want to say that fenders in general are over priced. Especially for how unreliable their quality control is. This goes from MIA all the way to squier. My point being, there's a huge difference between the name fender and the name spector(for example).

Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray4 and Ray5, Part 2

I'm not a 5 string player BUT I will say the sub ray5 is absolutely a shocker of a bass. Very clear sounding, and great overall feel. I was very surprised at the quality at the price I saw(about 200 and change) and totally considered buying one.

Bass newbie needs help choosing new bass.

I would go with the pbass, or a jazz bass(little more versatile) for the type of music you described. As far as the amp goes: GK all day. The new ampegs really are garbage compared to the ones that were made a few years ago. The gk combos are perfect for what you need and are at very good prices...

    Which Precision do you prefer?

Standard P in lake placid blue, maple board with black block inlay and a gold pick guard. Tone rolled all the way off makes for the best studio bass ever. For me it's not versatile for what I play in a live setting. My problem is I do not trust fender as a company at all(and do not like the...

    Does price = quality/sound

For me, and this is just my speculation, it goes from company to company and what the companies do during "the times." Personally there's a lot to be said about the quality of the neck build, as in how the frets are dressed and what kind of metal is used for the frets. Also, is it a quarter sawn...

Gallien Krueger Official Club: Pt 10

I use a 700rb ii and an ampeg 810 also. The tone is so nasty! My guitar player uses a bogner through an orange 212 and its plenty loud, if your guitar player is too loud, def tell him to go that route.

    Having cheap basses

How you play(technique and tone) and what you play(musically, note selections) make you a good musician and a good bass player. Having a good or expensive bass is icing on the cake.
