    Bass pickups malfunctioning.

I have a Schecter bass that my bass player uses. It works fine but it has an odd problem. Only one of the pickups seem to work at a time. For example, sometimes the bridge pickup works perfectly fine, but when you switch to the neck pickup, it drastically loses volume, gain, and overall sounds...

    Sansamp RBI Issues

Yes I did, they told me it needed a whole new front board. :/ They fixed it and it has been serving my band ever since!

    Sansamp RBI Issues

So I've contacted Tech 21 and Lloyd suspects that there's something defective about the unit. Looks like I'm going to be sending it to the other side of the country for repair. Either than or contact my tech and see if he has any experience with sansamps.

    Sansamp RBI Issues

I've also realized that the Drive and the Presence knobs make no noticeable difference to the tone whether maxed out or turned off. The active switch in the front is pushed in.. The only knobs that actively work are the eq and the level.

    Sansamp RBI Issues

I'll probably give them a call tomorrow. The -20 pad was out, I pushed it in on both the input for the xlr and the 1/4 inch and it didn't make a difference at all. The 50/50 was also disengaged. I'll try messing with it more once I get the time, hopefully it's just some kind of user error and...

    Sansamp RBI Issues

My drive knob was at halfway, so i don't think that is the problem. So could it be some kind of issue with the RBI itself? Faulty or something?

    Sansamp RBI Issues

Recently picked up an RBI. Currently running it into a Peavey Pro 500 (Sansamp->Power Amp In) and it seems to lose volume dramatically when I push the blend knob clockwise and gain volume dramatically when it's going counter clockwise. When it's at 100% blend it hardly has any volume even with...

    Tone is too warm.

Currently using a peavey head with a tube preamp and a schecter bass with emg HZ's. I think the combo is a bit too warm and ends up sounding muddy with overdrive/distortion. Would active emg's be a good choice to get rid of the overly warm tone? I was thinking about going emg35p and emg 35j...

Question about wiring active bass passively

Well its an active two band preamp to passive EMG HZ pickups. The bass has four knobs, treble/bass/vol/blend.

Question about wiring active bass passively

Planning on going active with my Schecter bass in the near future. Going to go with the Bassline Blackouts, but I'm planning on taking out the crappy active eq currently in the bass. I honestly usually leave the eq flat on the bass and eq with the head/pedal. So my question is if I do away with...

Would a new pre-amp fix this?

I'm probably just going to replace the pickups and pre-amp next month. I'll try the pickup flip but no reason to fix something I'm eventually going to get rid of.

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

I was considering a sansamp in the future but it's out of the question for me currently. Last time I used the fx loop on my amp with a turbo rat, it sound like utter crap, might have been the pedal.

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

I personally dont see the need with blending with the rat tail, you can just dial down the gain of the low frequencies and it comes out clearer. It's a Schecter Damien 4 bass with an active preamp and EmgHZ passive soapbar pickups. Yeah I usually dial my treble in from the pedal and I'm...

Would a new pre-amp fix this?

There's a hissing high end and a thinness to the tone of the bass I'm currently using, especially when I shift the blend knob towards the bridge. Bass eq is flat and the amp is dialed in with plenty of low end. Possible pre-amp issue?

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

Gotcha, the tube pre on my amp sounds pretty nice IMO, although it might help to try a solid state head with my rig sometime to compare it. I like the roundness it contributes to the tone. Yeah my head has a contour knob and when you turn it up it cuts at 400hz and boosts the lows and highs, I...

What benefits does solid state provide over tube in a distortion setting?

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

I'm not too worried with cutting through since the band is only a four piece. More concerned about the voicing than one of the instruments being heard over the other. There's a clipping option on the rat tail that makes the bass cut like a mothershager but it just dominates the mix and the...

Distorted bass through a 2x15? Bad idea??

My experience with 15" with distortion wasn't bad, but I felt that the driver could sometimes not be quick enough for some of the faster riffs we were playing, especially with distortion. I also felt that the 15" didn't have as much punch as a 10". IMO I think a 10" driver would be ideal for...

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

Yeah I'm thinking the mid boost is essential. I actually don't play the bass in the band, but my bass player uses my equipment and I try to handle the sound. My bass player plays quite a bit lighter than I do on the bass so I'm finding that settings that would work for me doesn't necessarily...

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

Yeah that's what I'm already doing as of now, I usually run the lows at like 9 o'clock and the highs at full tilt and push the overall distortion as far as I can get it before it starts sounding like mud, so I can get the highs as nasty sounding as I can with the lows still clear.

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

Ok, I'll try lowering the low mid knob to 120hz for practice today. The rat tail seems to do an excellent job retaining literally all the low end of your original bass tone tho, nothing like any other distortion pedal I've tried.
  23. K

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

Yeah that was what I was sort of originally doing. Narrow boost at the low mids by like +4 decibels at 250hz. Mid cut at 700hz by -4db. and 4+ boost at 1.3khz at the high mids. I wasn't boosting the lows or high knobs at all, but pushing in the low cut button and pushing in the high boost. I...

Advice on distorted bass tone in a band mix.

Hey guys, just looking for some advice and maybe a few recommended settings for running distortion on a bass in a band mix. The head I'm running is a Peavey Pro 500, hybrid head, a Peavey Pro 4x10, (woo matching head and cab) and the distortion I'm using is a Rat Tail and a Schecter Damien 4...

So I strung my P-Bass BEAD last week...

Tension can definitely get floppy when you're tuning as low as A or B. The best thing to do is use a tension chart (I think D'Addario has one) and try to find the string gauge that will provide the best tension for you. My 160 gauge tuned to A isn't quite as tight as the D at 120 gauge, but is...

So I strung my P-Bass BEAD last week...

It works for us. I play my guitar in D standard while I set up my bass in ADGC for my bassist. Ideally most metal bands would drop tune, but I don't believe in it because I use more chords than just power chords all the time. I know another local guy who tunes to AEAD, so drop A, for his Doom...

Replacement pickups/pre amp for Schecter Damien 4.

Gotcha. I'm a Seymour Duncan fan so I was possibly considering the Bassline Blackouts they got. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/basslines-asb-bo-4s-blackouts-for-bass--neck-and-bridge-set?src=3XBACR Any experience with these? If I got these I'd also get the 2 band pre amp...

Replacement pickups/pre amp for Schecter Damien 4.

So the blend knob on this website? http://www.bestbassgear.com/pots.htm# So would you say running the active EMG's with no active preamp would probably sound better than the passive emg hzs with an upgraded preamp such as an aguilar? There's this sort of goofy nasalness in the bass that I'd...

Okay sweet thanks for the clarification. So a preamp isn't going to have an affect on your tone if you're running it flat?

Replacement pickups/pre amp for Schecter Damien 4.

Don't the EMG's need an active preamp to function? Could you explain the passive tone pot thing a bit more? I honestly don't care for having a preamp for eq just for better tone.
  32. K

Replacement pickups/pre amp for Schecter Damien 4.

Okay cool, I'd probably go for whatever is cheaper since I usually run the eq flat and solo the bridge pickup. I dial my tone in between the head/pedal. Just curious but what would you recommend if I was to go a different route than EMG? Like a different preamp and passive pickups. Curious...

Looking for some recommendations for pickup/pre amp combinations for a Schecter Damien 4 bass with passive emg hz soap bars. Swollen Pickle on bass in a metal mix.

Hmm, I checked out a demo of the Rat Tail and it's definitely along the lines of what I'm looking for in bass distortion. I mean I already have the SP, I guess I could try to work with it. So what would a Blender do exactly, something about splitting the signal? Couldn't I just boost a high...

Swollen Pickle on bass in a metal mix.

Hello TalkBass, me and my brother are beginning a project that can be best characterized as a Blackened Crust band.. Think Mayhem/Darkthrone with D-Beats. I play guitar and bass and he takes care of the drums. As far as our sound, we're going against the traditional scooped sound and my guitar...
