I have a Schecter bass that my bass player uses. It works fine but it has an odd problem. Only one of the pickups seem to work at a time. For example, sometimes the bridge pickup works perfectly fine, but when you switch to the neck pickup, it drastically loses volume, gain, and overall sounds like poopie. Even weirder, it seems like this problem randomly switches between the pickups for some reason. Like sometimes the neck position sounds like this, sometimes the bridge does. Ideally I'd like to have the neck pickup selected at all times since it sits much better in the mix in that position. Is this some kind of wiring issue?

Most likely wiring, I would check the connections to the pickup switch first.

Was it always this way, or did it become this way over time? Is the pickup configuration 2 single coil, 2 humbuckers or a combo of the 2? Are you able to rewire, or change pots, and can you check the resistance of the pickups, after removing them from the circuit? lastly is it passive, or does it have a battery? If you can determine those things, you can fix it, people here could help if they knew those answers. If that stuff is beyond your scope, check the wires, especially the switch, if there is one, if that doesn't help, it should not be expensive for a tech at a local shop to tell you what's wrong.
