NBD Steinberger Spirit XT25 with Upgrades

I have a Steinberger XT-25 and am very happy with it. It has the Labella double ball flats mounted along with the Mod-Rod strap extender and it sounds great and also is a very comfortable bass to play. You can say goodbye to neck dive. I recently had it de-fretted and wow, this bass rocks. Good...

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

Back in the late 70s we had a 3 gig weekend. On Saturday afternoon, we had a wedding. Then we played a dance that evening. On Sunday afternoon, we had another wedding. The Sat wedding was for 4 hr and a bit strange. The bride and groom were Down's Syndrome and the crowd was a little off. We...

    Markings for fretless

I definitely prefer unlined fingerboard with dots on the side marking the frets starting at the first fret.😁

    Well, this is new!

Unfortunately, I don't see any improvement since the effort to eliminate these pesky rogue ads.:rollno: TB is infested with them now and to add insult to injury, they have nothing to do with music at all.:sour: As I have said previously, Google ads are the worst offender. :poop:

    Fx/preamp for fretless bass

Fretless is soooo much fun to play. You could try stringing with D'Addarrio light gauge chromes (ECB81). They tend to be bright yet are very smooth on the fingers and fretboard. For a Jaco/ Stingray like sound simply use just the bridge pickup and pluck over the pickup. I play a fretted...

Been buying basses and amps online for 8 years and finally got my bank account hacked

I never use a debit card for purchases.:rollno: I always pay cash for gas. Like another poster said, I only use my debit card at a bank ATM inside the doorway at the bank. Usually I will go inside in person to withdraw funds. Can't be too careful nowadays.;)

    Snappy retorts to telemarketers

The first thing I do when I get a new phone number is to get it registered on the Do Not Call List. Here is the number and it only takes a couple minutes to complete the process. 888-382-1222 I don't get these calls anymore, plus the software on my phone filters out spam calls. 😁

Any readily available 5 string basses that don't weigh the equivalent of 2 and a half semi trucks on top of a whale?

My Steinberger XT-25 weighs approx. 8.2lbs. It is very comfortable to play with zero neck dive and a great sound. 😁

Rechargeable Li-ion 9v causing signal interference

I use RayoVac rechargable batteries in my wireless mouse and my TV remotes. I also use them in my Vox headphone amp and never had a problem with noise. As far as an active bass is concerned, because they tend to last a long time, I would use Energizers or Duracell. ;)

Best headphones for learning bass parts

I have two sets of headphones. One is Audio Technica and the other is a bluetooth JBL. Both will bring out the bass, especially the JBL set. 😁

Shipping box for Fender-shaped bass bodies

You can make your own box. Measure the length and width of the body you want to send. Allow 6" for height and go to Walmart or Home Depot, Lowes ect and buy a carton and cut it down to your measurements. I have done this successfully many times with no problems. It is actually a lot cheaper than...

    dealing with a negative reaction

I remember a wedding we played at where we played our hearts out and the crowd just sat. About 15 minutes before we were to finish the booze kicked in and they all wanted us to keep playing so they could dance. We said sorry, we have another job in a couple hours. By the way, where were you for...

    Sterling as beginner bass

I like the Squire CV 60s PBass. I think is would be an ideal starter bass and would easily play any genre. As for callouses on the fingers, one way to ease that is to have it strung with light gauge flats or chromes. Good luck.;)

2 Bands: One With Live Bass, and One Without

I'm old school and have no use for backing tracks. You might as well use a DJ or sing karaoke as you're basically singing along with a recording. The first church I played in started using backing tracks and I would hear people in the audience snicker about hearing a keyboard but seeing no...

How do you make your neighbor's dog stop barking?

I think you will find that most police departments will advise you not to confront the owner but to file a noise complaint. If you think the dog is barking due to mistreatment then put that in your complaint as well. Good luck.;)

    Help with church

You should be able to find almost any worship song on YouTube. I play in church and often go to YouTube for songs to learn. You should not have to pay for anything as the church already paid for the songs which is where you get your chord charts. Good luck.;)

    Ways to economize

Brown bagging is one of the best ways to save. I also saved my water bottles and refill then at the tap which has an under sink filter. I save a lot of money not buying water anymore. I also combine errands to make as few trips as possible. I cut way back on my driving and save a lot on gas...

    Guitar stand for gigs?

I keep a Stagg Ukele stand in my car for gigging. It will work for solid body and acoustic guitars and basses. It folds up and fits very nicely in the trunk. You can get it for about $12 at GC. Perfect for Steinberger bass.;)

    Should I get a 34 inch bass

One thing you need to consider is how much weight can your neck and shoulders handle. At least with the NS Design Wav4, there is no stress on your body as it sits on a tripod. I used one in church several years ago and it worked out fine. If you really want to go to a bass guitar then try to...

Musicians who look like they don't take crap off anybody

Link Ray. There was a gig at a biker bar where the guitarist was threatened because his girlfriend used to go with one of the bikers, so the band casually walked on stage then put their firearms on top of their amps and proceeded to play without incident. Remember, he wrote "Rumble". Gotta love...

    NBD/NAD Totally 80s

I got this Steinberger XT-25 about a month ago and set it up with the Labella double ball flats. The bass sounds great and is very comfortable to play with no neck dive, especially with the Mod-Rod strap extender. The B string has plenty of punch. I just got the Peavey Max 300 yesterday and man...

Is there demand for a "synth bass only" player in live bands?

The B52s used synth bass as did Gary Numan on some songs. Gary Wright used synth bass on his songs and he was from the 70s. I think you would do well with an 80s New Wave/Synth Pop type band. Learn full keys as well. Good luck.;)

    Man, I miss old YouTube.

This is why I never sign into YouTube. It is sooooo corporate. I have seen videos with commercials every 2 minutes. The ads take up more time than the actual video. Google ads have permeated everywhere, even TB, and some of them are downright disgusting. Corporate America is in your face...

    Ampeg RB210 reliability?

    Side DOTS

You may want to look at a less expensive fretless bass for starters. The Squire CV60s fretless jazz bass is an excellent bass for your first fretless. It has a lined fingerboard which will help you learn fretless bass. If stay with fretless bass then you can move up to a higher end bass like the...
