I tried new CV JB 70, black and natural models, against black VM JB 77. Running through Ampeg SVT. VM sounded much better and had a nice jazz bass growl, both CVs sounded dull in comparison. Only natural CV had fairly decent action from factory, other two needed some work. Everything on VM 77...

They still sound excellent. I recommended it to my friend and he's loving it. Every time I see his band play I'm surprised how good it growls. Doesn't matter if it's DI into mixing board, preamp pedal into PA or straight into an amp, always a very solid jazz bass tone.

I tried at least 3 or 4 different examples of VM 77 Jazz Bass and they were all great. I was ready to get one when the new black CV 70 came out. Currently waiting for one to hit the local store so I can try it. I just hope they will still have the discounted VM 77 so I can choose the better...

Do you guys think that the new black CV Jazz Bass 70 will be similar or even the same in feel as the VM Jazz Bass 77? I can pick up the VM 77 on sale, around $60 cheaper than the new CV 70. I prefer the looks of CV 70 though.
