I’ve got PV 63 in my hands waiting to be installed. Will provide updates when fitted. Finger crossed

    Dunlop Super Bright Frustration.

Not sure if I can source a single .125 SS lo-rider. I’m tempted to try a set of low beams in my v7 jazz instead. To me the A string on the SS superbrights lack a fullness in the kids too

    Dunlop Super Bright Frustration.

Thanks. This is certainly useful info. Glad to know I’m not the only one that mix and matches a low B string with other sets of strings. So many sets I’ve liked but often the low B is sub bar to the rest of the set. Some sets you can deffo get away with it. Others, not so much

Is the .130 in the Hi Beams not floppy like the super brights?

    Dunlop Super Bright Frustration.

So are you saying the .130 aren’t floppy? I have never, ever got on with tapered B strings. Ive just put on my first set of super brights. They have a nice piano quality to them. But that .125 Is just too floppy. Shame really. Very soft touch is required to prevent it rattling away. Oh well...

I know my tone but help me find my P pickup!

A lot of the suggestions made are from smaller businesses within the USA. As I’m based in the U.K it’s doubtful that I will order them. i am now looking at the John Entwistle PBN or PBXN. Anyone have much experience with them? He is based in the UK

I have some Flatwounds on the way to experiment with.

I know my tone but help me find my P pickup!

I will give the bass some more tweaking and experimenting. I liked how the bass played and sounded before i took it for a set up. The Action was quite high And it had a really sweet decay with the foam mute. It sounded proper thinly and old school. now the action is lower and it probably plays...

I know my tone but help me find my P pickup!

Thanks, some good info. I did find that I had to lower the pickups as the E string kept hitting it. I found myself digging it and not getting much difference out of it which caused me to dig in harder. Now I come to think about it, I really liked PW’s with the stock pickup. It’s much more in...

I know my tone but help me find my P pickup!

I might just have to give this a go and try changing up the string combo. It does appear odd that I’m just not impressed with aguilars lack of character. They definitely lack low end bass for me tho

I know my tone but help me find my P pickup!

Interesting how no one has mentioned any of the pups I’ve been looking at apart from the Fralins. Anyone got any experience with Nordstrands or EMG GHZ?

I can’t say I’m sold on the quarter pounders. It seems everyone has them and they appear to have a scooped sound

I have edited my post. It’s a 0.001uF in there and thinking of swapping it for a 0.047uF. Both orange capacitors

I know my tone but help me find my P pickup!

I’m still trying to find the right pickup for my modded squire. I want a pickup that has undeniable P bass tone. I want punch and growl in there and it MUST be sensitive to dynamic changes in my right hand! I need it to be versatile enough to dial in a hard hitting sound playing rage against the...

    Aguilar ag-4p60 vs HOT

Does anyone have experience with the ag-4p60 HOT pickup? I put the standard 4p-60 into a squier and whilst it sounds nice, for me, it lacks a bit of bass, and it isn't punchy... I like punch, I like to be able to do dig in with my right hand! I think I even preferred this stock squire affinity...

Review: GHS Pressurewounds ~ Tangy Not Twangy

I thought I’d experiment and put a complete set of la Bella quarter rounds on... they’re just not as good as the Pressurewounds! They’re not as full bodied as the PWs

Review: GHS Pressurewounds ~ Tangy Not Twangy

So probably not going get hold of a .44 by the looks of things. I’ve resorted to using the duplicate .62 instead and just tuned it upto a G. The tension is quite high!

Review: GHS Pressurewounds ~ Tangy Not Twangy

So unfortunately i got two 0.62 D strings in my pack of PW72005. The .62 was in the .44 sleeve and thus I have no G string in my set. to say this least this sucks! I just had my customized squire back. I was hoping to have a sweet Bass to play during my time in lockdown but no. Bass direct...

    High Tension Flatwounds

The TI flats were great in general. However the open A totally lacked any low mids and body. It was hollow and underwhelming. Also that string would actually hit the fretboard if I dug in. I already had to make big changes with the truss rod and it still wasn’t enough. It did sound better when I...

    High Tension Flatwounds

They’re not bad at all but they’re a bit clacky. The treble is also sort of harsh on them. Most flats sound better over time but these sound dead now. I wasn’t really considering them again. I came across the price and was surprised to see they’re £66!

    High Tension Flatwounds

I did come across Sadowsky Blue Label but it appears impossible to get in the UK. I did try GHS Pressurewounds on it. Sounded fab through the magnetic pickups but utterly vile with piezo! They are also hex core. I wonder what qualities it is that makes them so bad with a piezo. Is it the hex...

    High Tension Flatwounds

Just want to add that the bass has 2 mags and piezo, so after something that works well with a piezo.

    High Tension Flatwounds

What are the highest tension Flatwounds available for 5 string? My portamento came with Chromes as stock. The bass seems to work best with high tension strings. Whilst I liked the sound and feel of TI flats, the low tension just didn’t work so well on that bass. I’m currently eyeing up GHS...

    The Samick Club

yeh something ain’t right about it! I certainly don’t need another bass, but this is very very cheap! Too cheap not to consider! I’m getting the seller to send me more pictures of the neck and fretboard. I hope that truss isn’t completely loose and sliding about!

    The Samick Club

I have come across this bass for £35 what do you guys think... should I pull the trigger? I have done a bit research. I think it’s a JB420 3 tone sunburst. According to the serial I think it was made in October 1993. it is the ONLY Samick I have seen with an exposed truss rod. I don’t like...

Review: GHS Pressurewounds ~ Tangy Not Twangy

I need to edit my experience on the PW's. Turns out my memory confused the PW's with the Labella Gold tapewounds I tried. they have a very low output. La bella don't seem to make a very good low B either. They always seem to tapered at the ball end and are always unbalanced with the other 4...

Review: GHS Pressurewounds ~ Tangy Not Twangy

Here’s my experience of PW’s. I bought a set of PW72005 in Jan 2019 for £35.50. I was very impressed with the price! So my intention was to put this 5 string set onto my Ibanez srf705 fretless portamento. I got as far as installing the low B and I was not impressed. The output on the low B...

    Ibanez Portamento Club

Yeh the pickups do pick up electro magnetic hum from lights etc. it’s normal. Try find a spot to play where it’s least effected. It sounds like your particularly exposed to it living near a train track. If you already have the interference noise, boosting the treble will only make it worse as...
