Taking only the treble from a flat pickup

Sorry, but I don't think you got me right here. Obviously, the tone, including the bass response, changes with position. I didn't claim it doesn't. At the MM position, I'm happy about the balance of bass and mids, and use it as a foundation to go further. I agree that the treble response is the...

Taking only the treble from a flat pickup

I have an "abused" bass in which I found my sweet spot for the G&L MFD humbucker pickup, approximately in the MM position. The tone is great (very clear mids, tight yet sufficient bass, relatively hot), but I lack the very highs from this position. Even changing to other pickups (P of various...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

If anyone who reads this thread considers the inner/outer/parallel /series/out-of phase version, you can find this elegant pre-made switch to be wired according to the SS (two single) diagram from Schaller (Germany). They claim that the switching is totally silent. This company has a great...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Thank you so much! I'm really not an expert on circuitry, but it makes sense to me. R2 is really a great idea! Anyone else cares to confirm Crater's schematic? I beg to differ. For me, the differences are definitely audible, be it a single-coil solo'd or the combinations I'll be...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

But because I have two humbuckers, so how many preamps does that mean? :D Having each of my humbuckers on a 5 way super switch is really enough. Together, it's basically having 4 single coils available. I love the Varitone/Tonestyler as well. I can't believe there will be much to be desired that...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

In all the schematics I've seen that was the case. I think it's actually a good thing. Sometimes during the same song, I switch quite quickly, so having only usable settings at the end positions makes a lot of sense.

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Thanks for the input, but I'd like to stay passive, and I have two humbuckers to take care of :D

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Googling "5-way super switch Telecaster" brought the best results, because some models have just two single coils: In some of the schematics I've found, The ground of just Tele's neck pickup is connected to the super switch because that pickup also has a cover ground lead: Rock the 5-Tone Tele

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Yes, I tried out of phase once and it was the most useless setting ever! Do you have a schematic for series/inner/parallel/outer for that 5-way blade super switch?? Is there a 4-way version that would do the same job? Just for other people who might be interested in buying a rotary switch in...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

So if I understand you correctly, one 5-way super switch per pickup can't both mute and include a "series" setting (without an additional switch)

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

RGJR, Thanks for the detailed answer. Is it not possible to achieve my goal using a 5 way super switch for each pup?

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Yes, that's a nice idea. But still, I might come back to the wrong volume setting if I'm not careful. I don't know if that would be critical or not, as I never had such a configuration. I might choose your solution if the switch solution won't take care of the muting. Therefore, this might be...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

This is a nice and compact idea, thank you. However, I like the idea of having the flexibility of choosing all coil combinations. To have a 4 or 5-way switch (with one axis of motion) for each humbucker would be really ideal, as it would give me an immediate understanding of where I'm at. On...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

I thank you all for your help, awesome! I prefer not to have rotary switches because it's harder for me to see what's the current situation (and I don't like the chicken-style knobs). I have always found toggle switches more comfortable as well. Is there any schematic available for 4...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

It's a good idea that I might consider. However, I prefer the option to mute the bass entirely without touching the volume knob. That Fender, as far as I understand, doesn't give you an inner/outer option for each pup. Or am I wrong?

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Hey all, Can I achieve this with the switch shown? If not, which one should I get? I wouldn't mind having this using two smaller switches that just require a driller. I actually have two (4 lead each) humbuckers and plan to do the same for each. This will allow for any combination of the 4...

    Ibanez EHB1500 vs SR1300

Hello dear bassists, I had the SR1300 in the past. I loved its feel and looks very much, as well as the tone soloed (was just lacking of some bottom end). But in a band context the midrange was just not cutting it like my other basses (Sire PJ, Fender Marcus Miller). Anyone has a comparative...

5 way switch for Jazz Bass pickups

Hi, is it possible to use this switch and trimpots to create: 1. Neck 2. Neck and a bit of bridge 3. Both 4. Bridge and a bit of neck 5. Bridge If so, how? Thanks! https://m.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_5wegschalter.htm

What's wrong with the Warwick LWA 500?

I have an LWA 500 and I do have to say in the EQ's favor that only the low-mid control is more in a mid point. However, I'm very satisfied with the other points, especially the hi-mid: seems to bring about any tweeter-less box into life in just the right way and still sound natural (if you don't...

    Portable battery powered combo

For me, a setup that weights more than 9kg is unacceptable. I want it to fit my bicycle's back basket. Yesterday I compared the Bose S1 to the JBL Compact One and they both distort at about the same level, yet the Bose has a bit more mid-range clarity. But for busking bassists, both are...

    Portable battery powered combo

How about using a car's jump starter->12v amp->box ? I had the Street Cube EX for some years. It's ok to jam in the park but can't compete with the noisy city in a busking situation with your mates. No low extension, compressor kicks in quite quickly. Tried the JBL Eon-One Compact and was...

    NBD - Ibanez SR1300 Premium

To revive an old thread, I have one and I used it both at home and in a rehearsal room. I play fingerstyle funk/progrock. I play on a EBS Reidmar+ Genzler T212. The bass came with D'Addario XL rounds, but I replaced immediately to TI JR364 (which sound very similar, just with reduced fundamental...

    Steamhammer, Reidmar 500, D800, Tone Hammer 500, D-400, ABM 600, Ironbass E1055- short comparison

I spent an afternoon in the music shop, looking for an interesting new taste of a bass head. I am going to cut it short - I'll give an opinion of how the amps compare totally FLAT, played fingerstyle with Human Base 4x OC with flatwounds, Ibanez SR2400 into a Glockenklang 15" and a Mesa 15". NBD: Ibanez SR2400

Played this bass today in the music shop on Glockenklang/Mesa gear. Compared it to Sandberg Ken Taylor, Human Base X OC4 (same electronics), Stingray and L2000. I'm playing dark funk grooves and chords, influenced by classical music and Bosa Nova. I expect a bass to have big lows, yet the lows...

The silk is light blue on both ends of all strings. They have a bloomy chords tone, sustain and finesse when soloing high up the neck. Thanks!

    Ibanez Talman TMB30 stock strings?

Do the strings in the TMB100 also have black silk on both ends? Wouldn't hurt to know which brand they are as well, if anyone knows.
