Looking for a thicker G flatwound string

I have the Labella 760FM 109-49 on one of my Fender Precision basses. Great set, but the G string just has a bit too much give to it IMO. I would like something stiffer. I was thinking about using a G string from the Original 1954 Labella Set, but it's not easy to find singles for that set from...

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

IMO more consistent technique. Especially for more "advanced", for lack of a better term, techniques such as harmonics and chords. The challenge is tonal balance, but that can be fixed with EQ. Also certain products like GHS Balanced Nickels are constructed in a way that deals directly with this...

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

Because I like balanced tension, want to keep it under 200 lbs total and I don't care about flexibility because I have strong hands and fingers.

    String Guidance

The original 1954 Labella set is constructed a little differently compared to the other 760 Labella flatwound sets which are all the same except for the gauges. There is a tonal difference beyond just being thicker. IIRC the ribbon is a little different.

The Comprehensive List of Black Nylon Tapewound Strings!!!

Yes I understand what tapewounds are I've been playing for 25 years and I've taken them apart. I'm really just curious about the tension differences between Rotosound Tru Bass and Labella. I haven't played Labella Black Tapes in a longtime, so I don't remember what they feel like. Switching out...

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

I prefer heavier gauge strings on fretless basses because I get less mwah that is easier to control and I think the clacking against the bare finger board you get from digging in with heavier gauge strings is very musical. These will be going on a Fender P Bass with a fretless Pau Ferro Fender...

The Comprehensive List of Black Nylon Tapewound Strings!!!

How would you guys say the tension differs between Roto Tru Bass, Labella 760N Blacks and Labella 760C Coppers? The Rotos came on a bass I bought used and have that floppier E and tighter/thicker G, but was wondering how others differed in feel?

Would you happen to have the tension of the individual strings for the Powerwound set too?

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

Thanks a lot this is one set I was considering. We will see what they say about the others. Hoping Powerwounds are a bit lighter.

Yeah it's weird, but they were most likely trying to express how they felt without making the effort of explaining further or creating new marketing materials.....

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

Thanks for info I'll take it into consideration. A more reasonable requirement might be heavy gauge, but somewhat balanced and with a total tension of 200 lbs or less maybe..... I'm waiting on some tension data from Ernie Ball and SIT, so hoping they have a stock set that might do the trick.

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

Well that was a ball park, not an exact requirement. For example, a .110 D'Addario Pro Steel string is only 38 lbs. I'm flexible with gauges too. A 70 or 50 wouldn't be the end of the world. That would still qualify as "heavy" in my book.

D'Addarios are rounds underneath the tape.

    Flatwounds on a Jazz Bass

As far as old school flats are concerned, I prefer GHS Precision flat wounds on jazz basses because they are less scooped and have a much shorter break in period.

Looking for Heavy Gauge and Low Tension

Before anyone suggests it, no I do not want tape wound strings. Any other style of string is fine though. I'm looking for a 4 string set with around 175 lbs or so of total tension and in something close to the following gauges: E .110 - 35 lbs A .90 - 45 lbs D .75 - 45 lbs G .55 - 50 lbs It...

Identify Fretless or Not from old recording

Bill Wyman ripped the frets out of his bass in the 60s and there were a few production fretless basses offered around 1965-1970 made by Hohner, Fender and Ampeg. There may have been others.
