Is this nut slot chip / missing wood cause for concern or just an aesthetic thing?

Title. This is from a bass I'm looking to trade for. I would think this is a non-issue since it's a small piece and there are basses where there even isn't wood behind the nut, but i'm no expert Thanks in advance

    What do you think?Lost cause?

They've been in 4 to 5 feet of water for about a week. ....and no,I don't own them. Here's the situation:Northeast Illinois got some torrential rains last Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Massive flooding. Roads closed. Houses flooded. This is a small parking lot in a depression.A kind of bowl...

Would contact of the hot and ground of the power supply cause a pedal to squeal loudly?

I purchased an echolution deluxe 2 pedal on reverb and the seller forgot to put in the power supply. [It is on its way]. So I hooked up two 9 V batteries in series and wired that to a cable plugg which is powering the pedal temporarily. In my usual sloppy manner, I did not tape over the exposed...

Can a ding/dent cause more damage if left unrepaired?

I've got a ding on the body of my Schecter Riot. It's not somewhere I can see or feel, but can it lead to further damaging the wood underneath if I don't seal it up?

What is usually the cause of "crackling"? Is it the bass or the amp?

Only have one amp at the moment, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but recently I have noticed a weird crackling sound every now and then. What is most likely the cause? (Please don't say the bass :( )

Do dirty strings cause drag? What's the solution outside of new strings?

I just bought this bass and it's really not too bad, but I can feel there's drag on the strings which are dusty and dirty. Does dust and dirt cause drag on a string? What's the solution to get this set of strings fresh, clean, and smooth to play?

What would cause a preamp to eat batteries

I have a Carvin LB70 that I installed a Guitar Fuel preamp in. The preamp sounds great. But it uses batteries quickly. The first battery I had in it lasted a week. The second one lasted about 6 weeks. The bass doesn't get heavy use. It just seems to be using batteries faster than normal. I've...

Active preamp - what would cause signal loss when turning blend pot?

I'm buying an Ibanez SR480 from somebody here on TB, and he says the pots are scratchy and the signal cuts out when the blend pot is turned. I figure Deoxit would cure the scratchy pots, but what could be causing the other issue? If I have to replace the blend, what kind ohm value would I use...

Will a knot in the neck cause fret buzz?

I just had my Hagstrom FXB530 come back from the luthier's after a "deluxe setup" which included having the frets properly seated, glued and leveled. However, now there's a buzz at the G string, 5th fret when the note decays. The luthier says this is because of a knot in the neck wood right...

Finally found the root cause of my jack issues

I picked up a cheap used project bass a year or so ago, and have been using it as a platform to hone my repair/upgrade skills. It came from the factory with a relic finish, so it's a forgiving medium where blunders don't make a big impact. One of the first things I did when I got it was replace...
