Active preamp - what would cause signal loss when turning blend pot?

I'm buying an Ibanez SR480 from somebody here on TB, and he says the pots are scratchy and the signal cuts out when the blend pot is turned. I figure Deoxit would cure the scratchy pots, but what could be causing the other issue?

If I have to replace the blend, what kind ohm value would I use? I have another Ibby (SR600) that has a probably similar preamp. The pickups connect to the blend control and then to the preamp. It also doesn't have a marking on the back indicating what ohm value it is.

Swapping the output of the blend pot with the ground could cause that issue. It could also be a bad case of insertion loss. Whatever the cause, however, it has nothing to do with the preamp.

The value of the blend pot will depend on the kind of pickups. Use 25k for active pickups, and 250k or 500k for passive pickups.

Line6man to the rescue! The pickups are passive. I don't get the impression that this guy has messed with the preamp at all. He had thought about keeping the bass and dropping Bart stuff into it, so I believe it's the stock preamp.
