£2000 for a rig, what do i get?

Ok, so it’s been a wile since I’ve posted anything on this site.

The last time I posted I wanted to know what bass I should get with my £500. After a long debate of fender jazz or Warwick corvette etc I found a jem! Warwick Streamer Stage 1 on eBay but it now £500, needless to say I bought it, and it is the most perfect bass EVER! However its not really suiting the style of music so im thinking of a change, I’m also only using a Hartke Kickback 12 and need something bigger and better for a new band (pop/rock/blues)

Now, someone has offered me £1100 :hyper: for the bass and I have £900 saved so I’m thinking of a completely new bass set up and would like some advice. :confused:

So my questions are, if you had £2000 to spend purely on a bass and bass amp, what would you get? And why would you get it? :eyebrow:

Perhaps a Lakland jazz bass and a Markbass rig? :)

Spend more money on the amp/cab(s) than the bass, to get enough power and quality sound. I'd love to have a Markbass rig myself, but I can't afford one. Same thing with the Lakland... :hmm:

definitly get a better amp than an better bass!! a 300$ VM squier will sound kickass into a mesa, a 4000$ usa lakland will sound so-so trough a 160 watt laney combo!

What style of music are you playing? Are you looking for something all-tube, SS, hybrid?


For your budget, you should be able to find something decent. Since you're in Europe, I would look into MarkBass, Ashdown, and Warwick first. I don't think you necessarily have to spend more on the amp than on the bass but I would buy the amp first and then use whatever is left over to by a new (used) bass.

Remember: a crappy bass will sound good through a good amp but the best bass in the world will sound lousy through a crappy amp.

I’m playing blues rock think cry of love or john Mayer trio, so maybe an ampeg although I’ve kind of got my heart set on a markbass 4x10 and the little mark 500w head. I’ve heard that the Warwick and the ampeg 450w solid head are underpowered is this right? I have no preference towards solid state or tube, probably solid state if I hade to choose.

Get hold of one of these

then for your cabs, get hold of

That would be a good way to go; I was rather fond of my LMII. However, if you are playing mainly rock then I think I would opt for the MarkBass R500 or maybe an Ashdown ABM 500 as it would be nice to have access to some tubey tones.

Whatever floats your boat. it sounds liek you are starting to form a prety solid plan. Just remember that you will need to run a 4 ohm load in order to get the full wattage out of those SS power sections.

OK dude,
I think he wanted to be able to get a rig and a bass for his 2000 quid. Besides, what the crap does the average bass player need with a 31 band EQ? Nevermind moving all of that suff around :eyebrow:
