1-in split to 2 XLR out DI boxes?

As you have discovered, for such a simple product in concept, it doesn't seem to exist outside of that one Behr unit!

I have found this to be the case more than once. You look for a product you believe should be common, and the only company making it is the mighty Behr...

I got the same problem you've had, I was wondering which solution you used?

For the specific problem I had, the best answer was to mod the input of the preamp to accept an unbalanced signal. What I did instead was sell the preamp, as I have a bad habit of starting these mod projects and not finishing them.

The second best answer would have been either the Behr DI, or a stereo DI with a short patch cord connecting the channels.

I've heard it's a problem using a XLR Y-splitter in this way because of signal-loss, can you confirm this?

I can confirm that it can _sometimes_ be a problem, depending on all the specific gear being used. On the one hand it will cut the signal level at both outputs, but OTOH maybe your preamps have enough clean gain that it doesn't matter. With any passive non-isolated Y split there's a risk of feedback and ground loops. But then again these issues may not happen, or may not be audible, depending on all the gear and how it's all hooked up.

Short version: the problems are real in some cases but not all.

Every gadget and every cable in the chain has an impact. Whether that impact is audible, or matters, depends.

I would like to have a DI with a EQ on it (like the Aguilar Tone Hammer) so the 3rd option probably doesn't do the job. Can somebody give me advice which option would fit best?

There's a small brand in the UK called [SFX] that makes about the most ideal tool for this, a preamp with EQ and multiple DI/line outputs. It's not cheap though.
