I emailed the seller asking for pics of the headstock (I told him I was wanting it but needed to see the tuner holes). Here was his reply.

Anyone want to say this is just "simillar" (or whatever) to a Fodera and not a blatant counterfeit?

This bass is clearly a counterfeit, as is the sellers other bass up on eBay. There's no dispute that this is intent to deceive and improper use of trademark - which is why I reported both of them yesterday as well.

The guy on ebay is stealing. He identifies the bass as a replica but a "replica" is an exact copy or one made with the original makers supervision. That bass doesn't fit neither description.

And I love the seller's negative feedback. At least two buyers didn't have sense enough to know they were getting a counterfeit.

I hate fake basses and those criminals should stop selling fakes on the internet.

Ebay used to post questions to the sellers on the auction page and it would give buyers a heads up, it's been going downhill in some areas ever since they stopped posting the questions for all to see.

G&L is not Fender. Fender is Fender.

My 2¢

I've known Vin and Joey for over 30 years and I've know Jason for several. They've worked, painstakingly, to produce sonically and aesthetically beautiful instruments. These instruments, in the hands of the owners, are personal statements of what they want to hear, musically share and visually enjoy. While the copies or forgeries may be good or even very good, they don't compare to the original. It is similar to having an original Van Gogh, Renoir or any great piece of work that stands the test of time as opposed to a print.

Separately, the customer service is of Fodera is in a league of its own. Everything about that shop and everyone is nothing short of spectacular. The forgeries on eBay were originally listed as Fodera basses until they were exposed. These guys charged high prices for shoddy workmanship. For me, that is not cool to ride on the coattails of guys that were breaking their asses for decades to develop a brand, copy it and rip people off at the same time.

You can do as you wish and purchase what you wish as I am in no position to judge you. My upright was a copy of a William Forster as I couldn't afford the 250K for the real thing. If it were me, and I couldn't afford a Fodera, I'd wait, (as I did when I couldn't afford one) and break my ass to get the funds together. The other alternative would be to find a luthier that could make me something close, someone that could see my hands, listen to what I'm hearing in my head, someone that I could work with.

Sorry about the rant but I love those guys and I really didn't dig the way the foreign company tried to play their forgeries off as the real thing.
