Fodera protected their intellectual property. Fender did not. Thus, Fodera copies are bad. Fender copies are not. Is that it?

Are Sadowsky and Mike Lull and Alleva Coppola and all the other multi thousand dollar blatant Fender copies also crimes? Why or why not?
Simple. No protected intellectual property is being copied.

I'm fishing for the reason why people get mad at a fake Fodera but not at Sadowsky, and the only reason I've been given so far is because Fodera is protected intellectual property and Fender is not.False dichotomy. What exactly are you fishing for here? Who said Fender copies are not bad as well?
FWIW, I feel the same way about Fender counterfeits coming from China.

You're not wrong. I don't have a problem with the counterfeit issue because I don't think it's a problem. I don't think it hurts Fodera or anyone else.Understood.
I can't answer for anyone else, but like I said, I despise counterfiet products no matter who's name is on them.
I've answered you, now I have a question. You seem (I could be wrong) to want to hand-wave away the counterfeit issue. Why?

Sure. I didn't say it shouldn't bother Fodera, but they're not hurt by it. Chinese Fodera copies aren't hurting their business.Fair enough.
Would it bother you if something of your hard work and sweat was being ripped off?

Thats a good question. I suppose so a real company capable of real competition can't copy it. The Chinese knockoffs are crap. They're not a threat.Just curious. Why do you think any company goes to the trouble and expense of protecting their trademarks and designs? If counterfeits don't hurt anyone, why bother?
Nothing that would make me sensitive to IP issues. What do you do for a living? Certain jobs/careers make people more sensitive or dependent on IP issues.

Good point. As I understand it, if IP isn't defended against the crappy non-threats, it can't be defended against the real competition either. It's all or nothing. That's why RIC, for example, is so aggressive in defending their designs, if they let a bunch of fakes slide, they'll lose their exclusive rights to the designs.
+1Crime hurts everyone. If you don't call it out, it spreads and pretty soon *your* designs/ideas/products are the ones being stolen.

Yes, but it's very important that we here on TB should encourage everyone to stay far and away from these shady Asian websites...
