Double Bass 10" speaker replacement for 210 cab

What I have is a Hartke 210tp cab (don't laugh...). With a bit of knob fiddlin' I can get an "ok" sound powering it with an older GK 400rb. Cant say I'm a fan of aluminum cones, but that's what I got.

The sound I love is my old GK MB200 12" combo, only wish it could be louder in larger, drummer included sessions. Pretty much pizz only with the occasional slap.
My question is, having been happy with a 10" Faital switch on my Ampeg Rocket 100R combo:

Is it worth it to try and make an old inexpensive cab better, or am I just trying to polish a turd?

To get a new truly worthwhile small cab gets expensive very quickly...

Have you tried powering the Hartke with the GK 200? Both the Hartke and the GK 200 are sealed cabs, so they should well together in theory. That would be a 112/210 stack, 100watts. A lot more speaker area than the GK alone Worth a listen, anyway.

If it was my cabinet, I'd never throw any money at it unless was broken, and I was in love with sound and couldn't live without it.

It used to be pretty standard practice to swap out 15" drivers because of new developments in speaker technology. I used several

different speakers in my B-15N. While a pair of Fatial 10's is a major upgrade from the aluminum drivers in your Hartke, you may

be putting great speakers into a less than optimal cabinet. Of course the only way to really know is to try it. The old GK400RB's are

decent DB amplifiers. Another thing you have to be careful of is heat dispersion.

Neodymium speakers can get pretty hot, so newer cabinets take that into account.

That's a decent 210. I've enjoyed hearing other players using them, usually as part of a multiple cabinet scheme. The fatal pro 10 is a great driver..but 2 of those would cost more than the cab is worth on the used market. You might try calling the good guys at USA Speaker for driver suggestions that will work in that hartke box.
