I'd tell you to get off my lawn, but I need to go take my medication...
The Lindo sounded like a Precision; the Jazz sounded like a Jazz and the Fedora sounded like a custom soapbar job. Those tones are not even remotely similar. Make them all P's, all J's or all soaps. The Lindo didn't sound very good and the Fodera was lovely. The Jazz also sounded noticeably better than the Lindo.
IMO
I've seen a number of his videos. He's a good player.
A few years ago I read an article in the UK Guitarist magazine where they were comparing four (if I remember correctly) boutique amplifiers and had two decent but mass produced amps as well. In the blind tests most people couldn't pick exactly which amp was which and one of the lower priced amps actually came in second on their points tally.
What really stood out to everyone was that they could pick the player on any of the amps. While there was a definite difference in each amp everyone could pick the style and tone of each other quite easily.
Must have tasted horrible!

HONK!
I don't know which videos I avoid more on YT, his or Scott's bass lessons. They are both great bass players. Just got tired of the gimmicky click bait videos. Loses its novelty after a while

Darn, the one time I was really hoping for a video clip it was just the picture.
Love the Marx Brothers.

I really disagree. You can't buy a better bass tone if your technique is the problem. But sometimes the instrument is the problem. It depends on where a player is at with their individual journey of their skill and gear. Like I mentioned in my above post - I got to a point in jazz school where my german warwick (which you'd say is a decently solid instrument) was holding me back, so I upgraded. No susbstantial difference between the three basses that can't be negated by eq, amp, etc. That's only a $10k bass, though imagine the people who spent millions for a stradivarius who later found out they couldn't be distinguished in blind tests.
The people who are saying the fodera sounded better have been placeboed. It looks better and is more expensive, but in blind tests, as has been proven over and over, no one can tell the difference. I can't believe we even have to have this discussion anymore. It's settled long long ago. You can't buy a better bass sound. I can plug in a $50 craigslist bass as long as it works and has strings, into a berhinger PA with a parametric eq and get as good a bass sound as anything.
But the benefit is having a bass and amp that is uniquely yours, that looks cool, feels good and is inspiring. I couldn't rock a "Lindo" bass and feel good about it, just like I can't wear just any clothes.
Exactly. It's easy to make a cheap bass sound good. I find that playability/comfort is usually a bigger difference, even between two basses with good setups.I enjoyed his 12 string and fidget spinner videos. But I couldn't give a rat's ass about comparing a $100 bass vs a $10,000 bass. Never owned a $10,000 bass but I have owned several $100 and $200 basses, and if I have to choose between the two, I'll take the $10,000 bass any day of the week. It's not just about sound but playability.
I would disagree with your description, completely. To me it sounded a bit scooped, and very sterile.Yeah, well defined, clear tone with plenty of low end and punchy mids! Sounds pretty bad to me too!
This community is so negative...it's a well edited video and he plays them all fine.
Why take so many shots at the guy? If you think you can make a better comparison video, then do one yourself.
I'm not taking any shots at the guy... I like him!
I think most of the "negativity" that you speak of is about the premise itself... "$100 Bass > /= than a Fodera"....
I dunno about that...
Argh

I have had students who ask me about if they should upgrade their bass, and I will swap instruments with them for the lesson. I'll still be sounding better! But that's just a young student being impatient. Doesn't mean it's never the time for an instrument upgrade to = a sound upgrade (I will also add, increased playability translates to a better sound as the technique of the player is less inhibited)
Could YOU tell?BTW, I had a german Warwick, and played the chinese version. Again, in blind tests, no one would be able to tell.
