112 - light, small, loud and cheap ;-)

As the title suggests, i'm looking for another cab.
Right now, my main gigging amp is an aguilar setup with a Tonehammer500 and two GS212 cabs.
I'm occasionally playing coffeehouse gigs where even one 212 is overkill.
I have an old Carlsbro Viper 115 100W combo and a SWR LA 12. The Carlsbro is a wee bit to much and the SWR a bit too weak. So i thought i can get a decent 112 cab to replace both combos. When practicing at home i could use my markbass LMII as an amp and can leave the aggie stack sitting in the rehearsal den.

I know that cheap, light, small and loud don't come in a box, but do you have suggestions of anything that might come close?

I hear a lot of people are happy with the DB cabs for the TH, and I imagine that a th500 and a db112 would make a killer coffee house rig :bassist: (Disclaimer: I've only played the db112, not the th500. That will change shortly)

Edit: But I guess it doesn't completely fulfill the "cheap" criteria... or light for that matter. I think I'd check out a GK NEO 112. It's light, the voicing should make it come across as relatively loud, and it's cheaper than the DB I initially thought of.

I guess it depends on your definition of 'cheap'. I have a Tonehammer 500 and I use a pair of DB112nt cabs. I found many available in used but "like new" condition on Craigslist and the prices varied widely; I got mine for btw $250 and $300ea. I don't think you can really ask for more cab for the money. One of these cabs, with the TH500 sounds great for coffeeshop gigs, and can still crank at rehearsal if you only have one of the cabs on hand. (the two cabs together, with the TH500 will keep up with any 4-10 I've ever heard, and sound better.)

Throwing the EBS CL 112 into the ring, which is cheap and not too shabby... there certainly are better ones out there, though.

Personally, I'd go with a DIY build around the Eminence Basslite S2012 if I wanted to go cheap, small and light. fEarful or variants if I wanted it to be loud and good, too.

My thoughts exactly. Particularly on the "cheap" criterion. If you simply don't have the budget to get the quality you want, then something's going to have to give, so you'd better prepare yourself to make some concessions on at least one of the other criteria.

But if you're one of those people who never wants to spend money on anything, so you're always on the hunt for "something for nothing", my suggestion is to just bite the bullet and acknowledge reality. While there are some relative bargains in the bass cab market, as well as some options that are relatively overpriced, I've found that by and large, "you get what you pay for" tends to hold true a lot more often than not. :eyebrow:

Given my gear is considered top notch by fellow TBers, i'm not one of those people that demand top quality and don't want to pay what it is worth.
I'm not after the perfect solution here; If i was, i'd probably try out the aguilar SL112 since that would be the obvious choice. And i'm not in a hurry since i have gear that will get the job done.
I'm playing the coffeehouse gig with a small PA that runs the singer, acoustic guitar, cajun and sax. The SWR is capable of handling that but only just and i'd like some more power at hand because on occasion this gig turns into a session and there might be an electric guitar with an amp and then i run out of bottom end with the SWR. I'm located in Germany, so used stuff from craigslist is out. I looked around for a db112 but aguilar gear is a lot more expensive here and it's really hard to find something used.

Where are you located exactly? Hieber Lindberg in Munich has a great selection of 112s, for example.

I wasn't that impressed by the Aguilar SL112, to be honest. Impressed by the weight (next to nothing!), performance was good, but for less money you can get the Glockenklang 112 which is way beyond what the Aggie can do.

If you're anywhere in the vicinity of Passau, you could come check out my creation. You can't buy one, but you could see what a good 112 is capable of ;)

Just to be clear, my "top notch" comment was a compliment. You haven't filled out your profile (location) and you made no mention of your location in your first post. Whether or not you fill in your profile is your decision, but if you don't then letting fellow TBers know your location in the first post might weed out the craigslist suggestions (or not, ;) as many don't bother to read the OP and just react to the thread title). You've still not mentioned your budget. Help us to help you!
