112 - light, small, loud and cheap ;-)

Traynor TC112. 15"x15"x20", 25lbs, can be found for $200 CDN on the used market, and I find my pair of them to be plenty loud with my Aggie TH350 head. I personally don't think they can be beat when considering the criteria you've listed off. The only cabinet I *might* prefer to them would be the SL112, but for 3-4x the money???

Eminence Beta 12A2 in about two cubic feet tuned to the upper 40's. Smaller box okay; you trade off some low-B.

Or Eminence Legend CA154. Yeah I know it's a fifteen, but aside from that it's imo a decent candidate. Slightly bigger box, similar tuning.

Just to be clear: Your compliment was recieved as such.
I never thought anyone would go as far as checking out my location in my profile before answering.
I did not mention any budget because i'm not decided yet how much i might spend on that.
If i am able to get the sound of my stack only on a small footprint and a lot easier to haul around, the cab might see a lot of usage and i'd be willing to spend
a bigger ammount. If it's just for the odd coffeehouse gig, i'd like it to be cheap.

It's not possible for me to check out cabs in Munich, i live too far up north for that - on a clear day i can see Denmark from home.

The Markbass cab looks interesting. My backup amp is a LMII that would be a nice looking match and i could ditch the SWR if i went for that. They are about the same size and the ny121 is 5kgs on the light side - even with the LMII or Tonehammer on top it'd still be lighter and i could use the LMII to have it sitting at home, serving as practice amp.

BTW, I didn't check out your profile (though for many here it seems to be a common practice). For all I know you filled out your profile but just not your location. :ninja: If you're in TalkBass "Retro" mode, you'll see people's location beneath their join date, which is below their user name – or not, if they haven't filled out their profile you just see the join date... and that lead to my profile assumption.
I don't use the other TB themes, so can't comment on whether location is listed below user names in threads. Anyway... location location location. Fehmarn, you say! That I will look up...

I like your idea of having the switch-hitter rig that's able to do both the coffee house gigs and serving as practice amp at home.

I think perfect for coffeehouse gigs and homepractice, so you can have all four!

Well, playing with that idea got me to consider my current amp situation.
I have the aggie stack which serves as my main amp and brings a smile to my face every time i set that thing up on a stage or just fire it up in rehearsal.
Then there's the Carlsbro 115 combo with an old JBL 115 cab that i got dirt cheap (bought the carlsbro for next to nothing and repaired it, the cab i dragged in from the street) and the SWR combo. My backup, as mentioned before is a Markbass LMII and, in case i survive the nuclear war and all modern electronics cease to work, i have an old peavey mark IV. The SWR sits at home while the aggie stack is in the rehearsal den, the rest of the stuff is used to gather dust in different locations. So, as mentioned, i could ditch most of that stuff and get me a nice little cab to use when a single 212 is just too much to schlep.
That cab would take the place of the SWR and be driven by the markbass while at home. I could swat so many flies with one hit. Get rid of amps and still gain something.

So let's say i'm looking for a cab that's not bigger than the SWR (which is cubic and about 41cm on each side), weighs less than 15kgs and can sound like a big rig when mic'ed. To add something to make the braincells rattle before any suggestions come in, i'd like something that can represent a low B without farting. Am I in the Barefaced ballpark now ?
The Coffehouse gigs are with Sax, acoustic guitar, cajun and a small PA, other applications include solid rock and reggae/ska.

I'd like to know this, too. The low B is a deal-[breaker/maker] for me.

I guess this about where I say, "Have you considered a Bag End S12 or S15?"
Maybe with an SFX Thumpinator.
Not "cheap" new, but maybe you could find a used one. New about $650-700.

I was looking for the same thing recently and took a chance on the Eden EX112. Very glad I did. While it may not be true Eden sound, it's a killer little cab for it's size, weight and price. I'll probably pick up another down the road for a mini-rig.

[edit] I should mention, though, that I'm using a GK1001rbII (carefully) to power it, so I have tons of headroom. It keeps up with two guitars and a drummer at reasonably loud practice volume quite well without distorting.

Hey, those TKS cabs have some interesting details. I like the metal grill covered with cloth on those retro-flavored cabs. Great looks and keeps little fingers and feet out of the cones. They look expensive. But, I suppose that is to be expected.
What brand drivers are used, Peke?

I don't know what drivers are used. They might look expensive but they're not. S112 is actually something like 435$. Of course customizing and shipping them will cost you a little bit more. I personally use one cab driven by ToneHammer 350 for acoustic band and two of those driven by pre-/poweramp combination for bands with drummer and two guitars. Works great in both situations and they really are easy to lug around (one cab weights about 10kg/22pounds). I strongly recommend.
