Hope this is the appropriate place for this since I don't see a cabs/speakers section anywhere.....

I need two 12" bass speakers each rated for 250W @ 4ohms.

The cab dimensions are: 24.5"h x 20.75"w x 17.5"d

Prefer to keep pricing under $400 for the set.
Lay your recommendations and links on me.

I have an Ashdown Superfly.
Each side puts out 250W @ 4 ohms and it cannot be bridged.

My 2x12 cab was custom built. Each speaker has its own input jack and handles 250W @ 4 ohms so I can plug in both outputs from the Superfly and still only have one cab. One of the speakers s**t the bed and I want to replace both to keep a matching set.

No, you don't. A premium 8 ohm driver, like the Eminence Deltalite II 2512, with a 250 watt/8 ohm thermal rating will only take about 150 watts through most of the bass range, so your Superfly has the ability to push a pair of them to full output. And by using 8 ohm drivers you have the ability down the road to add 2 more for an additional 6dB output.

BTW, I run my Fly into one 8 ohm cab and find it adequate for my needs.

Not a whole lot of options out there. You could talk to Dave at Avatar. He uses higher Xmax 4 ohm Deltalite 2s that I've heard he'll sell, but I don't know for sure. B&C makes a few, but you probably don't want to know how much they cost. You could contact the cab builder, but I noticed in your profile the reason you're probably hesitant about that. Nuff said....

You might want to just convert it into a more conventional 4 ohm 2x12 with two 8 ohm speakers and then build an identical one for the other side. This is all assuming you find something that can play nice with the cab volume/port tuning........

How are you running into one cab?

The rest of that was moon talk to me.
If I slap two 150W, 8 ohm speakers in, it's not gonna blow something up?? :confused:

ashdown's website only gives one spec for its output rating: 2x250watts @ 4 ohms. i'm certain that you could run it at 8 ohms per side (with less power output) without any problems, but it doesn't say anything about its ability to run safely at 2 ohms.

The amp puts out 250W @ 4 ohms per side.

At least according to the manual.

Each speaker in my current cab is rated for 250 W @ 4 ohms and wired independently to its own input jack.

Thermal wattage ratings are not what determine how much power a driver can make use of. Speaker replacement is a very complicated process, and of all the possible considerations involved (see: http://www.eminence.com/resources/data.asp ) the driver thermal wattage rating is among the least significant. It would help knowing what drivers were in there already.

But wouldn't those make the amp underpowered?
The speakers are rated for 500W and the Amp only puts out 250 on each side.

I've always read it's better to have amp wattage a little higher than the speakers and speakers suffer more damage from rigs not feeding them enough power. Never made sense to me but that's what I keep reading.

Please don't think I'm being obstinate here. This amp, ohms, wattage stuff has always confused me. I just want to be sure my rig runs as well as it did before and I don't do anything that's going to cost me more money in the long run.
