12 (Twelve) String Thunderbird

It's simply stunning! Congratulations on a beautiful bass.
I love the pickup placement, reminds me of Mike Lull's TP Sig model, so very cool, I hope you'll drop a shot off in the Thunderbird Club for us as well.

Here's to hoping all the naysayers are eating a large heap of ****

I like where you put the pickups.
My 8-string has a bridge humbucker that is useless to me due to all of the high-end content already there, and the "neck" Jazz pickup is closer to "P" placement due to the 24 fret neck + heel.

To my eyes, your placement looks really good for an 8 or twelve.

I feel like such an idiot, but I didn't notice until your "mugging" shot how the pickups were placed. That is absolutely, positively, brilliant. I have to agree with Keith that the bridge pickup on octaves are all but useless - the middle has MORE than enough high end. That really put this thing over the top for me, and I don't even like white! But I would be more than happy to receive a generous donation from someone like yourself for a poor, unemployed bass player.

Great stuff!
I don't think I'd have put the pups so close together (maybe more of a RIC spacing), but it is your show after all!
I'm sure there was good reason to do it, just haven't gone back and read if it was posted or not.

I remember the first few pages were all mostly people telling you it couldn't and shouldn't be done, yet here it is!

I'm glad I read this all the way through.... Please keep posting pics of this interesting project, and I hope it turns out exactly as you want. :)

So, did it turn out exactly as you wanted it? I hope so; it's sure one gorgeous bass. A question, though; do you play it over the pickups, or behind them (just curious)?:)

I wanted to post some more pictures of the Thunderbird with its new acrylic mirror pickguard. Larry, or talk bass user LJVSK, made this awesome pickguard for me. He does really great work.

Friggin' amazing! I absolutely love how the shiny chrome works with the mirrored PG and the chrome TBird logo. You definitely picked the right logo, Larry. I couldn't see the subtlety of how the chrome logo on mirror was going to work but you sure did! It all just works to make this the most unique TBird I've ever seen. Thanks for letting me be a small part in it. [emoji2]
