12 (Twelve) String Thunderbird

I haven't read all the pages, just some of the first page, but I am sure that everyone who has said the neck won't take it is absolutely right.

If you can, save your money and look out for one of these (it's not mine, sadly).

There's something you don't see every day :cool:

Maybe Gibson will take the hint and make a few.

I doubt it though.

You're correct... Ain't gonna happen.

Here is the one 12 string Gibson bass in existence:

Built by Master luthier Phil Jones. I have played it, it is freakin cool.

It's fun to see a naysayer come so late to the party, AFTER the impossible is achieved.
Elwood - rock the heck out of that thang. Well done sir, well done.

Exactly, I'm amazed at this thread. It looks like 25% is about the actual build, 45% about how it won't work, and 30% about how great the finished product looks/sounds.

@L.L.Elwood

So how is the neck doing?

Well...the story got a little more involved, as I wasn't able to test it with the original truss rod because I found it to be stripped and un adjustable. A friend removed the fingerboard, replaced the truss rod and put in 2 graphite reinforcement rods. So, as it turns out, it's a rock solid neck with the 12 strings.

Oh man!! I LOVE THIS! Thanks for posting. I actually am close to buying a Gibson $ bass and converting to 8 string. It'll look pretty close to this.
