Im not as impressed with SX as some people are... If I were you I would save up a bit more and look for a used bass..250 would get you a used MIM fender....

$150 bass budget(Help)

For the record, most non-metropolitan areas in the US have crap for used gear available, and the OP is 13, so I'm guessing its not super easy to travel to shop. And craigslist is laughable in my area, only about 5 First Act basses from Wal-Mart on there; so I'm guessing it sucks around other mid-sized towns too. SX might be the only way to go.
SX, then learn how to do your own setup. I've consistently been blown away by the quality-per-dollar when checking out SXes at the local mom-and-pop.
I can't speak to SX quality as I've never even seen one, but I can vouch for Peavey. My old Mileston IV has never let me down and feels and plays better than most other brand new basses at twice the price. They're cheap and built to last, they also have very thin necks which makes learning to play a bit easier. If you find one used give it a try and see if you like it.
Nobody comments on his vids but you are quick to push him to buy an SX bass guitar? I would stick with the bass you have in the vids its probably better.
Go to a guitar store. Look for basses there in your price range. Test them out. Form your own opinion.
Why would he want to save up more money to find out whether or not this truly interests him?
Budget basses are what they are, ebay is a viable source for lower end instruments.
I suggest a starter pack if you are just getting into it, and need everything to get started. Its likely that you won't know the difference immediately if a bass is properly set up, I know I didn't.

I'm learning some Beatles tunes and saw a post by this young dude and was impressed...again today he posted another...He has a bunch of vids on Youtube, very talented. His bass looks pretty good in the vids, I just thought someone would pick up on that.

Ok, so i've been lookin into a new bass and i really want one that is $150 or less because I'm only13 and I have a budget. But anyway, I have been looking at SX basses for a period of time but cannot decide on one. Also, if you know any other types of basses that would be good then please tell me and post a link to the bass thank you. (Anything from MusiciansFriend,RondoMusic, etc... to one of the classifieds here on talkbass.)
O.K. so know that we've established that you've got a bass that appears to have a P style p/u and vibe to it, I'd ask you , the O.P. what exactly are you looking for? Are you looking for somehting to compliment the bass you already have? Something in a J style might be good if that's what you want.
Are you looking to replace the bass you have. If that's the case you might want to save up some more and look into the used market.
What are you using for amplification right now? Maybe that $150 could go towards an amp upgrade, which IMO will get you more than a bass upgrade if you're currently using a practice type amp.
Personally, I've taken a liking to Yamaha RBX series basses. I bought an RBX 374 in the UK for £130, not sure what you would pay in the US, but my dad has an RBX 270 which is the model below with P/J pickups. I'm guessing that one of those would be within budget and give a good sound to start with.
Ok so heres the reason I want a new bass before I get a new amp. My bass right now, in the input jack, is having some problems. Sometimes the jack thing goes into the bass and it takes me like 20 minutes to get it out. I'm in a band now and if that happens while I'm playing i'm screwed (just happened yesterday during practice). But how it all actually happens is the screw holding it together comes loose then it falls in. Even when i get new and better screws for it it all does the same thing and it is really startin to piss me off
So now you know why I really want one. Also, I am using a type of practice amp but that one still works fine plus I'll use my brothers good bass amp when playing for a gig or something like that. So I'm gonna save up for a new amp after the new bass. Oh and the basses I'm looking at are Link Removedand

Not trying to talk you out of a new bass, but if you're talking about stripped out screw holes on the input jack, you can fix that for next to nothing with stuff you probabaly have laying around the house. You could replace the jack assembly with a brand new high quality one for under $5.
That said, the Jag copy seems to have a reputation as a bit of a neck diver. Don't know if that bothers you or not, but that's worth taking into consideration.
No experience with the other SX model, but it looks interesting, and I prefer the P style p/u myself to a J/J combination (just a personal preferance )
Personaly, I use the SX SPB 62 and have found it to be a killer workhorse bass.

I aggre with myself, get the bass YOU wan. Not the bass that other say you to take.

I think his bass sounds pretty good in the vids.
I've seen numerous Squier packages on craigslist for $150. You will get the bass, amp, cable, tuner, strap, and maybe a gig bag and picks, etc. Many, many people buy them and give up on it, so you can get them for cheap. Some I've seen have been with Crate amps with a little more juice (watts) than the Squier pack amps.

ive also seen a ton of no-name starter bass packages on craigslist for like $400. just looking for a sucker, watch out kid!
