Totally OT, but did you use your SPB 62 on the Mark Lind recordings? That tone is pure awesome.
I'm sure the quality is pretty good with the Jag, although the general consensus is that they are real neck divers due to the short upper horn.
Make sure you take that into consideration with the purchase. Personaly, neck dive doesn't bother me, but others just don't deal with it well.

Some stuff of Marks stuff is the SX, some is my old Fender. They sound virtualy the same, after the Lollar p/u upgrade.
The two basses that always go to the studio with me are the Blue SX SPB 62 and the old Fender.
I almost always use the SX live with Mark.
Ok guys thanks for all your help and keep sending out suggestions. I'm going to buy my friends bass (he wanted to try bass and he ddecided he didn't like it) and I love it. I'm also gonna buy his amp too. his bass is only $90 - $100 (what he's sellin it to me for) and he doesn't know a price for his amp yet. I really like his bass and stuff. i'm going to save up for a good bass wah wah pedal and other good bass equipment as time goes on.
If you could post us some new soundclips or videos after you got the new bass i would be pleased!!

Well for starters he could resell the used mim fender for what he paid for it...he wont get money back out of that SX.and then there is the shipping...so your reasoning seems flawed to me.

A late model used MIM P bass is going to run close to $300 these days. Nearly twice his budget.
Yep, you'll have to factor in depreciation on just about any NEW bass you buy be it a Sadowsky or an SX. With the SX you'll still probalby get close to $100 for a used one, so you're really not taking that big of a hit in actual dollars and cents. Maybe $50 tops. Shpw me another new bass that you can walk away with only $50 depriciation.
O.K. Let me rephrase that. Show me one that doesn't have a waiting list for a new one that only will depreciate $50 when you take it home. ( I had Rickenbacker on the brain)

.Wow, a lot of posts since mine. I'm still a proponent of the SX route if $150 is the absolute amount you're willing to spend. Like a previous poster said it might need a setup, but why not learn how to setup a bass while getting a good deal. You've found Talkbass obviously so you'll have all the access to the setup knowledge you need. I wouldn't buy a Squier unless it was a VM (over $150). As far as pawn shop deals go, they all use ebay/internet now to price their instruments. The days of pawn shop gems are over. Check out some of the SX threads. You can turn an SX from a beginner instrument to an intermediate instrument in increments and learn a lot about mods and setup in the process. Not to mention that Kurt (the main SX guy) will bend over backwards to help you out. Poor build quality can't be fixed (Squier Affinity...), but cheap components can be replaced. Here's a pearl; only about 10% of being a bassist is about actually performing. The rest is technical knowledge, networking with other musicians, and of course not sucking.
I've got a Greg Bennett Samick. $100 + Shipping... It is new. Bought it for my daughter. Actually bought a couple for her. She did not choose this one. It's black and new.
Yep I got my Ibanez GSR200 from ebay with gigbag and strap paid and shipped for less than $100 from evilbay.
Its a great bass with 22 frets comfortable neck and a simple acitve pre-amp that has a easy 2 use bass boost.
Best of all:
1.it has a smaller body than any squier/sx bass the headstock is 2+2 so it is also more compact in lentgh (good if your less that average hieght)
2.Easy to setup and adjust the truss and the action stays in place even after I swapped for Heavy Ernie Ball Power Slinks 55-110 strings.
3.My favorite reason for keeping it it wieghs far less than anyother bass I owned. Albout half as light as an SX/squier.
( If you are new to playing bass your back and shoulder will be happier if you start with a lighter bass)

Good Choice. I'm not an Ibanez fan myself, but you picked a fine starter instrument, that will serve you well, and it looks like you're getting a pretty good deal as well.
You mentioned saving up for something better in the future. That's a great idea. I've nothing against low price instruments (a MIM p is one of my main gigging instruments), but saving up and making your second or third bass something very special is a wise decision.
Can I ask where you got it from? The models on their site look pretty tempting, but I can't find pricing anywhere.
The biggest problem you face is that you get something that is just flat out hard to play, so you lose interest. My hands are small now, and were smaller at 13, so I'd tend to stay away from something with a really wide neck (i.e. P bass).
You might just want to check out some pawn shops (in a down economy, you can find some good deals there). But take someone who knows something about basses with you.
