1950's Gibson EB-1 bass

Believe it or not, I've gigged with an original one. Despite the pickup it was actually quite usable - more so than the 60's EB0's I've tried. Those pickups seemed to get muddier later on.

The early plastic cover mudbuckers are different from the chrome metal covered ones, tone wise. Early plastic ones are just about impossible to find separate.

i have a '69 EB1 and it has the telescoping stand strap button on the end of the bass.
it's currently getting refinned since i bought it with a poor refin on it in '85.

My very first bass was a 2nd generation Gibson EB-1 (Bought used by my 'rents for $125 back in 1976!)... At that time, it was considered VERY uncool... Sad. I would love to have another one, but even the 2nd gen basses are too much $$$. And the Epis aren't even vaguely like the originals, much like the T-bird (in my opinion).

It's been quite some time since I've been on the site. I am considering selling my Epi EB-1 with the Gibson EB pick-up to persue other interests.

Jack Bruce played one for part of the 2005 Cream thing. It sounded incredible. I'd pretty much sell my soul for one of those basses.
