Carvin was making basses in 1960?? If this is true it really surprises me! Never followed them too much though

they were a pioneering company in many regards, often crude craftsmanship but TONE!
never got hold of a bass but my old dbl. 6 steel is a work of art in it's own way.
likely the first successful after-market supplier of quality PUs and parts in the '50s.

Carvin Corporation - Wikipedia

They were making insturments in the 50's and were authorized manufacturers of Fender and Martin stuff.

Thanks for posting this link. I didn’t know they were in business that far back either . That is an interesting bass.

My Carvin SB5000 is one the best basses I’ve ever played. I like that the headstock designs are very similar.

Indeed, I didn't find that out until last year. Always thought that they were a late '80s start-up.

According to their site, Kiesel is celebrating 75 years…that means they’ve been doing business in the music industry in some capacity since 1946.

I have a Kiesel (the original company name) lap steel and matching amp from the late 1940s. Back when the old man was making stuff in Nebraska.

The lap steel is frankly terrible and much as I hate to do it the original pickup is going to have to come out. Busted beyond fixing as far as I can tell. The amp…the amp has ended up being the moneymaker. Don’t know why but it records so very nicely. Next time it blows a tube is going to be the end of it, though. You just can’t find that weird military tube stuff anymore.

Wow that’s a cool bass! I love the oversized knobs and side dots. The way those fret markers are placed on the 7th and 12th frets is awesome.

Assembled out of German imported, Höfner-made parts, IIRC.
And yes: 25-1/8" scale length.
