The coolest EB-6 record IMO, if you're curious, is Wes Montgomery's "Movin' Along." It's a quintet of flute, piano, upright bass, drums, and Wes on a 335 style EB6. He mostly plays high up on the neck--enough that a casual listener could mistake it for a normal guitar--but occasionally he'll hit a note in the baritone or bass range that'll remind you of the instrument he's playing.

Pickups are pickups, dude. The old Fender Musicmaster basses use a straight up unmodified (except for covered pole pieces) Strat pickup and they sound tremendous.

I know a little about pickups, and a PAF HB is nothing like the mudbucker. The whole thing with those old Gibsons is the mud.

This isn't a bass you buy to gig, this is a collector's piece at a total of 30 made. I bet the PAF probably sounds great, especially with the scale and string gauge. If you're looking for a 'regular' bass, this isn't the one.
