1963 Jazz bass on ebay..

I feel very lucky to have found a 60 stack knob jazz when I was in high school, and although it is not original (refinished, different pickups, someone put in a toggle switch and a 60 pbass neck on it), it is the best electric bass i've played. For years i have been searching for a bass to use as my main axe (to retire the bass to safer environs), but I can't find anything close. I can't really explain what it is that makes it so much different, but it is deep, and I couldn't ever think of selling it. I don't know how much it is even worth... but the wood sings!

Talk about your 'Dream bass', the most incredible bass player I've ever seen played a blue 60's-era Jazz that looked exactly like the '63 pictured here. This guy looked a bit like Greg Marmalard from the movie "Animal House":rolleyes: . When he finished dismantling the fretboard, he smirked at me and disappeared. :spit:

I immediately woke up and said aloud: "Who the f*** was that guy?!?":eek: -True story.

It's my destiny to own a 1963 Jazz! I was born in 1963, and that virtuoso preppie-looking jerk in my dream played one just like it!! :help: :help:

It's not so much the quality or construction (because that has advanced over the years, obviously) but after something like 30 years (someone correct me) the wood is completely dried and aged, or as flea put it somewhere "The bass is used to being a bass and not a tree." The glue is completely cured as well so everything just resonates better.

Thats why I want a 57 Jazz!:D I can very much see buying an old Jazz bass (pre CBS) just to preserve and own part of history. But, I wonder do they sound BETTER then a Fender CS reissue or a Lakland Joe Osborn (US)? To me this is a purchase for someone with A LOT of disposable income, not a bass player looking for a gigging or recording instrument. I certainly wouldn't take one to a blues jam at Nancy Whiskey's.

For the record Flea just got his 62 J, he hasn't owned it for most of his playing history. Unfortunately, only a Rock Star can afford the things.
