1963 Jazz bass on ebay..

Not related to the seller.. but I was taken aback by the good condition of this 45 year old bass.. If I could only justify the price!

Thing is, I'm sure these will just keep going up and up in value.. in 10 years that could be a $100,000 bass..?? who knows?

But i dont understand if you were going to buy a 30,000 dollar bass wouldnt you want a bit more info than is given? i would feel a bit hesitant about that.
But i dont have to worry. My budget dosent even extend to an SX version of this bass!

I can't see $30,000 for that bass. It's in real good shape, it's 43 years old, and it seems to be all original, but that's real expensive. I'd pay quite a bit more for a 1965 Fender (I want one as old as I am), but not $30,000. That's just too much X5 for me.

I wonder what it will sell for????????????? If it does.

i couldn't agree more with the TS. it seems that just because vintage instruments are vintage, they sell high, not matter how bad the playability is (i've seen vintage guitars with warped necks selling for around $3000 US). it seems that musicians and stores with these instruments forget that music is supposed to be something anyone can make, and for all the bassists/guitarists/other musicians who don't want a modern tone, it's getting harder to be able to pay for that tone. i just don't see why they sell for more than a new instrument of the same kind. after all, something vintage is something USED, and i wouldn't want to pay so much for a used instrument that could have problems (and no warranty obviously) if i could get the same model for less, and WITH a warranty. that's why floor models at guitar shops sell for less than in-the-box models.

I remember seeing an auction on eBay for a 50's era Stratocaster with a price tag of $150.000 approximately, which sounded utterly insane to me. do a search and you'll probably find it.

I'm sure with it being a "buy it now" price, he's researched it and decided this is what he'll except.. therefore I'm sure (almost sure) it's gonna move for around that price.. I've got it on the watch list to see.. I've seen a 1959 P fetch $40K before, so it's not unheard of.. I would imagine a 1951 P and a 1960 J are the most "desirable" from the collection stand point, but as for quality of tone.. who knows? A $500 MIM may better them!

I'm with Sam on this one, I've seen 60's pre CBS J's that look like they were recovered from a nuclear testing site go for 15K! That bass brings new meaning to the term Closet Classic. How well it sounds or plays is anyone guess.

... its old thats to be expected. youre not a sucker for buying a nice bass, and just because youve got cash doesnt mean youre not gonna play it on a gig. if i had one id play it all the time. too bad im not into fretted basses. i could go for a jeanie though. id just wish for a fretless 62 and tell her to go away...

actually there are quite a few serious musicians in bands that we all love and listen to that play older Fender basses like this one.. Flea comes to mind, as does Roger Waters, Sting, and too many others to list here..

When you think about it.. The older Fender basses are as much part of music history as Elvis or Frank Sinatra's voices.. Jamerson's stolen "Funk Machine" 1962 P-bass would probably fetch close to $1,000,000 if ever recovered, or more (it's the holly grail of electric basses).. I mean, think of all the #1 songs that this single bass played.. Heck is upright fetched $200,000 several years ago at an auction and that was only played thru the late 50s'. He also had a '59 P-bass that was stolen back in '62, and that one would fetch several tens of thousands..
