I had the opportunity to demo the U4 and a universal V6-S with the supplied demo tips this past Easter weekend. I found the V6-S to have better mids and highs than the U4, but the bass did not stand out enough for me to really hear myself. The bass on the U4 was better, but it tended to overwhelm the rest of the sound. I ended up using the U4 for most of our services, but if I had my pick, I would have liked the U4 with a little less bass or the V6-S with a little more bass. All of this was through a small, inexpensive headphone amp (church provided) with a mono mix (all that is available from the board). The mix was several vocals, two keyboards, 4 guitars, drums, click track, and myself on bass. Bass was the highest, followed by click track, drums (kick and snare), vocals, one keyboard, and then the remainder. No EQ.

The demo information said that "Generally the demos have a little more highs and a little less bass compared to the customs." As I plan to go the custom and not universal route, this would tend to make me believe that the A4 would have even more bass than the U4 I tried ... not in the direction I really want to go. Any thoughts?

sure.. turn DOWN the bass???
I have custom Qi's (A8's on the way) and they can produce stupid/silly amounts of bass... If there's too much, I simply turn it down.

I've never found my Qi's to be bass heavy, but then again I'm getting ready to put two 8" subs and a 400w amp in my truck soooooo :roflmao:

I will say that I've listened to bass-heavy headphones (beats, etc) and my quads sound nothing at all like that. I also have some AKG cans that are pretty flat across the frequency spectrum and my Qi's have more presence in the lower frequencies.

I don't think mine are either, not when fed a neutral signal. But my point was that they CAN handle ridiculous amounts of bass and be perceived as bass-heavy by inference.. hence my suggestion to @tsl to turn down the bass.

PS: New A8 "shells detailed" yesterday!! :hyper:

+1 on turning down the bass. I'm finding eq is really important with the A4's and it'll probably take a few services to get everything in the sweet spot

I have dry signals to the Aviom but it does have bass and treble on the master. Also I run mine I stereo and it's a learning process to get the individual pans set so you get that "in the mix" feel. I hope to switch to the Aviom A360 mixer which does allow for EQing on each channel. Probably overkill but it's fun to mess around with and gives me my wireless signal through the Mix Back feature in our system.
I'm really enjoying tweaking the Aviom since I added the A4's.

Do you mean EQ the sound going to the IEM and shape the bass frequencies? If so, unfortunately, all that I have at the church is a small headphone amp that is volume only; no separate EQ. If you mean to cut my channel in the overall mix in the IEM so that the bass guitar signal is lower, that could be accomplished.

YEs, that's what I meant..... cut levels of bass guitar being fed..

late update.

Got'em.... New case felt to small, so I called and they sent the old larger case. "Thumbs up" !

They look good, fit and sound great on MP3's, Practice tonight!!!

Man, if and when you get the A360 mixer, you will wonder how on earth you ever got along with the A16IIs. So much cleaner (my major complaint with the A16s was that they just plain sounded bad).

Heck, it's taken THREE weeks just to get my Rotosound 77 flats shipped out.. they should be here today.. so not worried about 1964's progress!
